Wordpress extension + post aggregation site

Hi all,

I had an idea (another one), but due to the fact that I have absolutely no knowledge of wordpress extension I wanted to reach out with the community to see what you guys think about it.

My idea was to create a wordpress extension (and later also other blogs) that would allow users to 'like' a post that they have read.

The actual product is not going to be the extensions, but the actual aggregator site ( something like hacker news to start) that will show all the posts that have the most likes in a specific day...

The idea is that an user would gain visibility by just writing on its own blog as their posts will be shared on this aggregator site.

What do you guys think about this?

most people add facebook likes and it helps bloggers with two things

    1. it adds to social proof for their website
    2. they get analystics from fb about demography of their users.
    3. fb brings them traffic.

what would website owner gain by integrating it with you? you said they will get visibility but for that you should have traffic for people to consider it otherwise it will be overhead for them to add one more integration.
How would user like? if it is without logging in than bots can be used to manipulate the traffic. If logged in user is required than why would user log in? what is the incentive?

you may be able to pull it off but i see lot of hurdles in going in this direction.

I was actually thinking to make 'facebook like' extension too so that there is no much of extra integration, but just the normal one that people have done until now.

The idea is that users will get the extra visibility without any effort...

A good aggregator with constant flow of links is surely going to create traffic in the long run (and I will prob pay advertisement initially too to kick starting it)..
