So I'll cut to the chase, I am building an OpenSource Recommendation Engine and looking for devs to partner up with.
Why am I making this? Because "Personalization" is the key to any D2C app and strangely everyone is solving this problem from scratch.
A similar engine like this powers Instagram, Facebook, Flipboard, Amazon, TikTok, and countless other apps.
I have created similar feed/recommendation engines in the past for three different startups and each time I had to start from scratch. So I am making an OpenSource one that anyone can use.
Happy to share more details. Please let me know if you are interested.
I think it is a great idea! I also see no point in coping with others' work if you can create something new. Of course, it is a bit harder to start from zero point, but you have more possibility to patent something unique and make even more money on that. I'm also fond of this engine https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/vody-stylehaul-stephanie-horbaczewski-jeremy-houghton-1234814177/ , which helps a lot in the movies sphere. I hope that each site will use more powerful recommendation engines soon, so we can find anything easier
Thanks for the reply. I realized this project is a lot harder than I imagined, looking for partners now.
I have set up a basic framework and a simple working service for this. Haven't integrated any ML systems yet.
Hello, interested to see where this goes. Experimenting myself with WooCommerce recommendation system plugins and setting up some this fall for few small client shops.
There seemed to be room to improve in existing plugins (eg. "Product Recommendations by WooCommerce" or "Recommendation Engine by Element Stark") while initially checking them out with ml engineer friend, often being just rule based and not using real customer specific models.
Those also open source GPL code (except for processing possibly done behind API's) that I could share for testing purposes if it's useful.
