Working/communicating with devs.

The reason why I'm joining Indie Hacker is to be together with a community and wanted to know more what is happening within the indie community. I recently build Mumble, a decentralized text and voice chat (rebranding to Bondfire soon). As a product manager and a user experience designer, I would love to be able to learn how to communicate effectively with developers.

Anyone have any tips on communicating with developers because at times, it seems like they are not doing based on goals. How can we motivate or communicate with devs.

Often, developers and designers aren't working on a project; they're working on their resume or portfolio for the next job. Sure, they might be working on your project, but the goal -- for them -- is not to create what you want, but to create what is "awesome." If you make feature requests that -- in their perception -- veer away from "awesome" there will be tension. After all, you're destroying their resume and portfolio like you don't even care... from their perspective, anyway.
