Working on a productivity tool to help me ship more. Thought you might like it too.

As an indie hacker, I find it a bit challenging to stay on top of all that I have to do, all that has been done and stay motivated to keep shipping. We all know it: spending the whole day slacking or being distracted instead of shipping stuff out sucks, it really does. I needed a system that helps know what I have already done, what I had to do and also used gamification (aka streaks) to keep me motivated. In that spirit, neither Trello nor any other todo app did the trick and so I decided to build one for myself.

Here’s what I came up with: https://imgur.com/a/XBn95

Would love to know if this would be helpful to anyone and I’m open to any feedback.

The question I ask myself every day in the morning is: What are the three things I need to get done today to justify my existence? And then I just write it down in a Google Keep list, and have as a widget in my phone. I check as I go through the day. That workflow works for me. I would pay for something that is more focused and reminds me of the big picture (aka in my case OKRs). Maybe that can give you some ideas :)

@nelsonkamga ^ this is a really good piece of insight for informing where you want to take this product. People have VERY different habits - especially when it comes to productivity. Some people love a detailed list, outlining every single item they have to do/have done. Others (me) are overwhelmed by stuff like this, and want a super distilled version.

What you created looks great! Learn more about the different habits people have developed to stay productive, and see if you can build something that supports those different behaviors.

Thanks for the insight. What you said made me think of some kind of analytics dashboard that would connect to what someone is already using. Are you talking about something in that spirit ? Are you talking about an app that would in different ways according to the habits of the users ?

Hey, thanks for your reply. Nice workflow there :). Btw, what do you mean by more focused ?

      1. 1

Sorry, should have elaborated more. I meant an app focused on handling tasks, not on taking general notes like Keep. Although this current workflow is the easiest for me, I still have to pin my daily tasks list so that they appear on the top of the widget, write the current day in the title and tag it #dailygoal, so that I can differentiate it from other notes I take. Something that would allow me to do this without taking this additional steps that would be unnecessary in a productivity focused app.

Interesting idea. My first thought would be that the todolist should be powerful enough for me to want to ditch trello or any other means for task organization (which tbh I see very hard right now). My point being, adding tasks in more than one place is tedious, having the possibility to import or sync the list with other software would probably be very powerful.

I am myself working on a habit tracker, it isn't exactly trying to solve the same problem but tboth projects share a lot in common, you might want to give it a try https://everydaycheck.com :)

No worries. I am putting together a landing page, stay tuned.

Love it! It would be awesome if it could import tasks from some of my trello boards.

Thanks for the reply. By import, do you mean import all the tasks so you can work with them in this app ?

      1. 1

Yes, all the tasks from select trello board ( That I pick ), not all of them since they're not all about work.

The UI in your screenshot looks great! If I wasn't already using 10 different apps for this, I'd be open to giving it a shot. :)

Thanks, it is true there are tons of options out there and everyone has their own workflow.

What app(s) for the git-like streaks interface?

      1. 1

WIP.chat for shipping streaks, and also Momentum on Mac and iOS for general life streaks.

WIP.chat looks good but I'd rather use something more personal and focused. It's a good alternative tho.
