I am a full-time full-stack developer working from home.
For me, it is barely ever easy to just sit still for 8 hours. I have some urge to move my body which often results in taking short breaks from work to do anything else that isn't work basically; it eventually makes me feel unproductive.
However, two weeks ago I started experimenting with a new routine:
Based on the previous 10 days of experimenting, I am strongly convinced that I will continue with this routine as it makes me calmer and more focused during work hours.
There are also additional benefits of going to the gym before work, mainly because it's not crowded, but also because physically and mentally I am very rested which results in much better workouts than in the evening.
Does anyone have any similar experiences?
I'm pretty similar. My mornings look roughly like this:
[1] Getting early exposure to sunlight plays an important role in regulating our energy systems throughout the day. Go here for an in-depth explanation from a Stanford neuroscientist.
Pretty cool! Is it your everyday routine or do you slack off on weekends as I do?
I also experimented with listening to audiobooks while working out but I cannot focus 100% on both at the same time, I will still keep trying maybe I get used to it. Which kind of audiobooks do you mostly listen?
Thanks for the link, I will definitely listen to that episode on Spotify, maybe while working out :)
Yep, every day! I gave a fairly high-level overview of my routine here.
Wow, I admire the fact that you can wake up so early. Since I am a night owl I tend to leave my workout for the end of the day. It definitely has worked but I feel that I have to really push myself to get out of the house to workout, otherwise I would just spend all my time building the WBE Space
I used to be a night owl as well. 3 years I go I wouldn't wake up before noon or go to bed before 3 AM. But I had to organize my life better :)
Considering what time you wake up, what time do you go to bed? I'm having trouble organizing my routine.
On weekdays, I try to be in bed by 10, fall asleep by 11, so roughly I get 7h of sleep. However, on weekends I get full 8h of sleep or even more :)
