Would this podcast show be something you'd listen to?

Hey Folks, I'm building out a new podcast and looking for your help with validating the idea and get your advice on what you want to hear in a new show that would make you want to include it in your weekly consumption.

It's called HyperGrowth Stories and the purpose of the show is to talk with some of the most successful and inspiring direct to consumer companies that are building their business online.

We're going to explore the stories behind the rapidly rising brands they're building as they share their advice, trends, and predictions on the market in the space of 20 minutes per show.

Right now, I've recorded a handful of episodes including Chris Lemontagne from Teespring, Steve Christensen from Novo Watch, and Edvin Brobeck from Mapiful. The plan is to put them out there for mid-September once I have another couple of shows recorded so that I can make sure 2 episodes a week can consistently be released on schedule.

Because this podcast is really interesting to me, I hope it's going to be interesting for you too

You can find a 10-minute preview of the chat I had with Steve from Novo Watch here to give you a flavor of what an episode sounds like:

You'd really be helping me out if you could help give me your advice on the following:

  1. Is this a podcast you would subscribe to? - if not can you be blunt as to why? It'll help me build something people want

  2. Would you want to listen to this show once or twice a week?

  3. Who would you want to see on the show and learn from in the DTC space?

P.S. If you've gotten this far, I really appreciate your time in taking a look at this

Hey Barry! Congrats on putting your show together. I listened to the preview and it was really good.

    1. I don't think I'm your target market but what I did like is the format of it. Steve Christensen from Novo Watch was a really great story teller so I'd be curious if your other interviews are of that format as well. I think stories are what would be compelling because it connects the listener on a personal level. Even if I wasn't in your target market, I think I'd listen to it for the stories. How they came to be, challenges and if they had to pivot.

    2. I think once would be frequent enough for me. I've got a handful of shows that I rotate on my daily drives. Although as a consumer I would love the frequency of new content available to me, I wouldn't want to see the host burn out.

    3. I think this is kind of based off of who your audience is. Immediately I was thinking it'd be fun to listen to success stories such as those in markets like Etsy or Creative Market. But when I see the list of folks who you've mentioned above, I get the sense it wouldn't align with who you're targeting? Again, depending on who you're trying to reach, those who you interview might resonate with them differently.

Solid show and hope you see much success Barry!

Hey Michael! Thanks so much for putting your thoughts down on paper and using your time listening to the preview. It's very much appreciated.

Have to agree with you on that one, Steve really is an incredible story teller.

Can confirm the shows follow a similar format. Almost always the first 2 questions will be focused on how they came about and if they can remember the moment they got their very first sale from - hat tip to Tobi Lutke from Shopify for that brilliant emotional question.

It's great to get your feedback on the stories as a whole and what you'd want to hear in episodes personally. Love your ideas on talking to Etsy makers and creators.

Would love your feedback on future shows if you're a fan of the stories. If you're interested in staying on top of it I could send you a message when the first couple episodes are released shortly? www.hypergrowthstories.com

I thought that question sounded familiar! That was from Tobi‘s interview on how I built for NPR correct?

I’ve signed up for the newsletter. Looking forward to future episodes Barry!

Yes, that's exactly right. What an incredible episode that was!

Me too. Thanks so much for listening.

Yeah, it was really interesting to hear Tobi's origin as well as the level of vulnerability where he got into his fears as a CEO and his shortcomings.

Hi Barry! I just listened. The last 5 podcasts I subscribed to were all in the SaaS / bootstrapping space, so I'm not exactly in your target market (and it's likely I wouldn't listen because I'm not in DTC).

That being said, the episode sounded great, and you did a good job guiding the guest.

Really appreciate your feedback on this Justin!

P.S. I love what you're building with transistor
