Hey everyone!
I've been running a product for ~2 years alongside my full-time job. I've been extremely fortunate and so grateful for my revenue to match or exceed my full time job's salary over the past 2 months (nb however: my product is non-recurring).
I want to take the next step and go full time on my product. However, I live in an expensive city and I'm generally a risk averse person, so I'm not totally ready to quit my full time gig and rely 100% on my product's revenue.
I've been considering applying to YC purely for the seed investment (150k) - if I do get in (and that's of course a huge if), I'd imagine it would give me a 'safety net' if sh*t hits the fan. Though, I don't plan on raising VC funds and I plan to commit to my product for at least the next 10+ years if possible.
I'd love to hear what fellow IH's would do if you were in a similar situation?
I also re-listened to Lynne Tye's Indiehackers podcast (https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/086-lynne-tye-of-key-values) where she discussed how she went through YC and decided last minute not to present on demo day (if you haven't listened to her podcast, please do! it's incredible). It's actually what got me thinking of YC as an option, though I'd still love to hear your thoughts!
Sorry for the long post - I really appreciate your time and thoughts!
Thanks a mil
-Rohan
Have a look at https://tinyseed.com/ and https://earnestcapital.com
I think they're a perfect fit for you. They basically give you 150k so you can grind on the product for a year and take a small % (read the terms etc they're different).
Also do you think you can sell the dream of getting to 100m revenue? That is what YC is looking for I believe.
