I'm a designer thinking of building a tool that analyzes indie hacker landing pages and gives a blunt 10-point critique — headline clarity, CTA, social proof, pricing, visual hierarchy.
To validate demand I'm doing free manual roasts this week.
Drop your URL below and I'll give you specific actionable feedback within 24 hours.
If enough people want this I'll build it into a proper tool. Honest feedback welcome — tell me if this is a bad idea too.
Quick update for the IH crew: I'm shutting down the launch discount at the end of today (April 23rd). If you want to plug your 'Trust Leaks' before the weekend starts, use code TRUSTLEAK50 before midnight. Let's get those conversions up! 🌶️
This is a great idea 🔥 founders always need brutally honest landing page feedback.
Also, for builders here — there’s a live idea comp where you can submit your idea for $19, winner gets a Tokyo trip. Just opened, so early stage = best chances.
Of course I forget to include my landing page!
(And here is where I’m informed I can’t post links yet…so) try:
southpole dot blog
Hey John! Checked out thesouthpole.blog — beautiful photography, genuinely enjoyable read.
But I have to be honest — my roast tool is built for SaaS/product landing pages where conversion matters. A personal travel blog has different goals entirely so my framework doesn't really apply here.
If you have a product or service landing page I'd love to roast that instead!
Ah! I think you might have gone to thesouthpole.blog? I am a niche AI+Tech publication at:
https://southpole.blog
Still, I’m not saas so might not be a fit, I’m somewhere between a blog and a newsletter so the outcome might be the same. I would like to convert browsers to subscribers though. But at least we can be sure I gave you the right url. Sorry you have to look twice, I’m up to $58 :) - John
This is super interesting, it could be both helpful and entertaining - like really really funny. I might pay both for a roast of my landing page and maybe to see others roasted. Nobody likes being on the receiving end of brutal honesty especially in front of people, but if maybe it was paired with actionable items, and maybe supporting data it would be worth it.
The validation approach is smart — doing it manually first before building anything is exactly right.
One thing worth thinking about on the positioning: "brutally honest roast" attracts a specific type of founder who wants entertainment as much as feedback. That's a real audience, but it might not be the one willing to pay $29. The people who pay for feedback are usually the ones who are quietly worried their page isn't working — they don't want a roast, they want a diagnosis. Same product, different framing.
Happy to be a guinea pig: https://digital-firmen.de — it's a KMU web design service, German market, so the copy is in German, but the structure and conversion logic should be readable regardless of language.
Hey — did the roast help? If you found it useful, would you be willing to share one sentence I can put on the landing page? Would really help.
Hey Ayesha — I actually didn't run my URL through the tool, so I wouldn't be the right person for a testimonial. The feedback I gave was based on looking at your landing page, not from using the product itself. Wouldn't feel right putting my name on something I haven't experienced as a user. Hope you find someone who's gone through the full flow — that'll be a stronger quote anyway.
Roasted 🔥 digital-firmen.de
Strong trust signals — real testimonials, transparent pricing, case studies. Rare to see all three done well.
Main fix: hero headline "your website can do more" is vague. Lead with the outcome clients actually get.
Language switcher is there but hidden — most visitors won't find it. Make it more prominent.
Great guinea pig, thank you!
Fair diagnosis on all three points. The hero headline is something I've been going back and forth on — "your website can do more" is intentionally soft because the audience is KMU owners who don't like being told their site is broken. But you're right that soft doesn't convert. Will test a more outcome-specific version.
The language switcher point is noted — it's there for German/English but you're the third person who didn't find it. That's enough signal to move it.
Thanks for the roast, genuinely useful.

Sorry for the delay — was out for two weeks. Just poked around — congrats on launching. One thing that might be worth looking at: the hero promises "Instant roast. No signup. No credit card required." which reads as free, but the pricing section is $5/one-time. Both can be true (free preview + paid full report?) but as a visitor I couldn't tell where the free part ends and the $5 begins. Tightening that seam might matter more than most things.
Separately — interesting that you landed on $5 after the IH post asked about $29. Would be curious what drove the move if you ever write it up.
Lavinia, you hit the nail on the head. That 'pricing seam' was the biggest friction point I found in the data over the last 48 hours.
I just pushed a fix for this today. I realized I was asking people to 'trust the AI' before showing them what it could actually do.
The new flow is now 100% self-service: You can get your Brutal Grade + the Top 2 Fixes for your site instantly on the page—no email, no paywall. I’m betting that once founders see the quality of those first two 'free' hits, the $5 for the full blueprint becomes a no-brainer.
As for the $29 vs $5 shift? I want this to be the 'impulse buy' every founder uses before they hit publish. $5 is the 'price of a coffee' to save a $1,000 ad campaign.
Go run your URL through it now and let me know what grade it gives you! 🌶️
Glad the seam observation was useful — and the new flow sounds like the right call. Letting people see the quality before asking for money is almost always the better sequence. Curious how the conversion changes over the next week or two with the new flow live.
Thanks, Lavinia! The 'value-first' sequence is already showing results—just hit our first sale from the US yesterday. 🇺🇸
Appreciate your support from the start!
The "soft because KMU owners don't like being told their site is broken" logic makes sense — but the fix isn't a harder headline, it's a reframe. Instead of "your site is broken" try "your site is already good — here's what's holding it back from great." Same outcome, no threat. Good luck with the test!
That reframe is genuinely better than what I suggested — 'holding it back from great' removes all defensiveness. Stealing that logic for my own work.
Steal away — that's exactly how good positioning works. Curious to see what you test on the headline. Share the results if you do!
Will do — running the softer framing this week. Results in a few days.
$29 for a brutally honest landing page roast? Honestly… that’s not a bad deal if the feedback is actually actionable.
A lot of founders are too close to their own product to see what’s confusing or weak on their landing page. A fresh pair of eyes that points out messaging gaps, bad UX, or unclear value props can easily save way more than $29 in lost conversions.
That said, the value really depends on who’s doing the roast. If it’s someone with real experience in copywriting, CRO, or building products, it could be worth it. If it’s just random opinions, maybe not.
Personally, I’d consider paying if:
• The reviewer has proven results
• The feedback is specific and actionable
• There are examples of past roasts

Thanks for the honest take — this is exactly the feedback I needed.
On your 3 criteria:
Past roasts: I've been doing free ones on Twitter this week [@AyeshaBuilds]
Specific/actionable: check the ConvoKit and Whisper roasts as examples
Proven results: designer background, building SaaS myself so I know what kills conversions
Would love your honest take — drop your URL if you want a free roast before I launch.
