Pricing is hard and there is no single best way to do it. I'm building a product that uses market research surveys to help you find out your product's optimal price point.
Hackers, especially saas hackers - would you be interested in this kind of service?
#ask-ih
Probably not in the beginning of my SAAS journey. I think I would most likely want to do my own testing and getting feedback so that I feel good about what I decide to go with.
I think people like to be a part of making their decisions. So if my SAAS was already successful I might be willing to try it as just another data point to use.
This could be interesting, especially if you could support your customers with data to help support/communicate their pricing to their customers.
Knowing that they can/should charge $12/user/month may be important, but it could be even more compelling to arm users with being able to say "$10/user/month; 20% lower than the average for our sector <source>"
I would have been interested in this in a previous startup I founded that mostly sold to enterprise. My guess is we ended up way under what we could have charged.
I would worry, though, like how am I to trust your information? For example, how would you demonstrate, that you're sure I could sell a SaaS product for $10,000/yr to an enterprise?
You brought up a good point. I think there is no definite answer here. My attempt to solve this problem is to use surveys. If you could survey your target group of audience directly, you can ask them if they think $X is too much for Y product. If the sample size is large enough, you should get enough understanding of how much people are willing to pay. That's a kind of demonstration IMO.
