Hey everyone đź‘‹
My name is Mário Balça, and I'm building Ripplr — a social platform where people share their favorite links, and privacy is not for sale.
Lately, I've seen more tweets and comments similar to this one
Let it be the rise of paid social [networks] instead!
(In this case, the quoted comment is from @crumplezone, created on this post)
I believe that this is just my Confirmation Bias playing me a trick, but I'm really interested in validating this assumption.
How many folks out there are hoping for something like this to happen? What would you expect/like to find in this product? How much would you see yourself paying for it?
Let's start a conversation/discussion about this!
Maybe. What would I get for paying?
Not having any ads would probably be the first real benefit.
Then, at least for Ripplr, we're planning to have two different plans for specific personas:
---
But I guess if we think about other social media platforms, we could certainly find valuable features that would be interesting premium features, things like automation/scheduling, enhanced analytics, or maybe even access to certain API endpoints (?).
Curious to know your thoughts on this!
Premium Plan is in addition to the base plan needed to join?
How will businesses and individuals interact without ads?
Personally, I find many ads irrelevant and feel back for all of those people who constantly reach out to sell me something on LinkedIn. I wish there was some way to optimize the connection.
Yes, Ripplr will always have a free plan for everyone that wants to use the platform and all its core features. Additionally, we'll have two paid plans (Premium and Business) for specific personas with specific needs, where they'll find features that allow them to take even more value out of the platform.
Businesses will not be able to pay for higher visibility and reach on their posts, but that doesn't mean that they can't publish their own links and share their content.
Publishers and content creators will be able to build and grow their audiences (and reach), but this will be determined by the quality of their content — if their content is great, people will follow them, and their audience will grow.
Ripplr as a company will also do its job to help them with that, we'll share the best links that were shared in our platform, on our company's Twitter and Blog.
This will hopefully bring even more visibility to those who are publishing high-quality content — which makes our product and community more valuable, so ultimately they deserve it.
Do the free tier users get ads?
Nope! We want to keep ads out of the platform, for everyone.
Okay. I'm not sure if the benefits of a paid membership are very clear then.
You might be right... We're still trying to figure out how can we be able to deliver significant value to our paid accounts, without "downgrading" too much our free accounts.
But thank you so much for your input! It means a lot to us!
Sure thing 🙂
