Would you play this stock picking game?
I have been working on Monday Picks for a couple months now. I was inspired by the Alpaca Stock Trading API and decided to try it out with ReactJS. Simply put, I choose four stocks each week based on a theme and you use $25,000 of fake money to "buy" a certain amount of each. Challenge your friends, whoever has made the most by the end of the week, wins!
I've been playing MondayPicks with friends and family and they seem to enjoy it but I know they are biased. What do you think of the idea?
I'm not your target audience (not really playing tons of games, and not into trading), but I like the idea. The first thought that came to my mind: how do you differentiate from other games like this (I think I heard about stock-trading games on different podcasts)?
The biggest difference is that there are only 4 stocks to pick from each week (not the entire market), it's very casual and doesn't really require skill. My hope is that users will take 20 seconds or less to make their picks. The contest only lasts for a week, so there isn't enough time for an intellectual analysis to take effect. For that reason, you don't really have to be into stocks to play. It's something to talk about with co-workers and friends each week. Thank you for your comment!
