Would you use an Offline-first personal database/workflow builder?

Hey IH!

This is my first post here so I thought it would be only fitting that it be about validating an idea that could potentially start my Indie Hacker journey! Please be brutally honest (but nice) and feel free to add to or combat any of the points I mentioned below.

Here are the key features of this app:

Offline-First: It wouldn’t be fair to me to say that there are not good flexible “all-in-one” apps out there. Notion and Airtable come frustratingly close but they are both cloud apps that have limited to zero offline functionality. I work 40 hours a week in front of my computer so outside of that I would rather not be chained to a router for my personal brainstorming, tasks, and note taking. Also, since an app like this would host data locally, the pricing could be a one time fee as opposed to a recurring subscription model, which I’m sure a lot of people would appreciate given the popularity of lifetime deals. Another perk of the offline model is data-ownership, privacy, and portability which are, now more than ever, common concerns amongst users in our always-on, cloud world. An optional cloud sync will be available for those who want it, though. :)

Personal database: I’d rather provide people the tools and the canvas to create what they want as opposed to a complete setup that only works how I envisioned. Everyone works differently and tools should adapt to the way we work and not the other way around. I believe this also applies to the data. Why enforce rigid data structures and only give users the ability to define a few custom fields? People should be able to define the shape and relationships of the data they need to work with. This unlocks the true creativity of the person and the full capability of the software. Notion and Airtable do an amazing job at this, but again, offline please! 😅

Workflow builder: A database is only as good as what you can do with it. One should be able to build any workflow off of the same set of data given a flexible interface and capable data manipulation and automation functionality. This could be a task manager, data visualizer, project manager or whatever. Imagination should be the only limit here, not code or the software itself.

Is this a good idea?
