Would you use AR business cards?

Hey hackers! I'm trying to validate an idea I've been thinking on and would love your feedback.

Concept

Augmented Reality Business Cards

Design the front of your card however you want, the back would be your logo, a QR code, and background design. Whenever somebody scans the QR code on the back, they will instantly view an intro video or 3d model in augmented reality on the back of your cards.

Value Proposition

I’m sure you know as well as I do how hard it can be to grab the attention of potential prospects. Stop going unnoticed, add video to your business cards and stand out in the noisy and distracted world we live in today.

Questions

  1. Would you use AR (augmented reality) business cards?

  2. Would a price of $14.95 / mo or $149.95 / yr be worth the value to you? (As an iOS developer, if I landed even one gig a year from the cards they'd more than 100x ROI.)

  3. What features would you want to see? For launch I was thinking you could attach a video and/or 3d model, one-tap buttons for all your contact methods (website, phone, sms, email, socials, etc.), and metrics to see how often your cards are viewed, video watch duration, link taps, etc.

I personally prefer to keep things simple, and so wouldn't be a potential customer for AR business cards.

      Haha, fair enough! Thanks Hans.

  2. 3

Do you have a specific target market for this?

I personally would not be sure about the video part (I wouldn't use it -- that's why I ask about the market)

The 3d model thing could be cool, but I'd envision this specifically for companies that focus on physical products or NFTs.

It's funny you mention NFTs, this whole idea actually spun off of a NFT project I was working on where users could connect their wallets and display any of their NFTs in AR.

A now buddy discovered the project and wanted to make a 3d version for his web3 short term rental business, this is what we came up with: https://twitter.com/niftyarapp/status/1508580538747166725

But yeah, the 3d model thing could work for real estate, restaurants, gyms, boutiques, etc.

I think cool intro videos like this template would be awesome for all sorts of creators: agencies, photographers, videographers, artists, musicians, consultants, youtubers, influencers, etc. We could offer add-on services to edit really clean, polished videos.

Yes, the NFT/3d model use case is neat.

The problem i see with the video is that I have a hard time envisioning someone going home and scanning my card and actually watching the video. I would want something more actionable.

The 3D model is cool since (1) it can create a piece of conversation right there and then; and (2) even if scanned afterwards , the "wow" factor is much greater (i think).

        1. 2

          Yeah, that's a good point.

I favor 3D as well, just want to support video for those that want it.

          Thanks for the feedback!

For me this would depend on the scenario. If I'm at the right type of conference I'd use an AR business card (done this with snapchat at a conference before and it went pretty ok), however, I'd also like the app if it didn't do AR and just did something really unique

    1. 1

Appreciate your feedback. Happen to have a video of your Snapchat AR card? I love checking out stuff like that.

What kind of "something really unique" would you like the app to do?

      1. 2

Wish I did that was from about 4-5 years ago but it was essentially a low poly factory that could be scaled up and down. Back then wasn't a super hit but I've been talking to corporations that want more immersive factory training so I could see an AR card like that doing much better now.

By "Something really unique" I mean something visual that also provides value as an example:
-3D model of a purchaseable object with the option to render in AR
-Walkthrough of interactive space with option to render in AR
-Visual Breakdown of a process with option to render in AR

I think a question would be who's your intended target audience? (AR can impact a lot of industries so choosing a big and wealthy market would lead to more chance for success and a more specific value prop)

One warning is that I've seen businesses searching for AR but I haven't seen consumers using much AR that isn't tied to a social app or a game so this may be something to consider in your target audience.

        Hope this helps!

          Makes sense, no worries!

Those are some really interesting ideas. I thought about a walk-in AR escape room you could play out on a soccer pitch or at the park or wherever that could be kinda cool. Trying to stick more B2B though until a project is making enough to pay the bills and I can go full time haha.

Yeah, that's a good point. Hopefully making it super easy and frictionless to enjoy the AR experience will help with consumer adoption.

          Thanks!

5 years ago I came across someone who had an AR business card. I played with the toy for less than 1 minutes. For me it's a gadget with some entertainment value but if you have a business, do you want my attention on you and what you have to say/sell or do you want me to play with a gadget and leave ? A QR Code to a form or product demo is ok. A QR code to a 3d model I'm not convinced. Maybe I'm not in your target market. Maybe to grab attention of gamers this could have more value.

I worked on a similar project. We created AR business cards for the client. I can say that this is an option for those who work in innovative industries where you have to impress your customers and such a business card is one of the ways to do it. That is, I agree with the previous comments, you need to clearly understand who your target audience is in order to properly monetize it, and the idea is feasible.

      Awesome, thanks!

As a user, I find the concept of augmented reality business cards to be fascinating. It's definitely a unique and attention-grabbing way to showcase your business and make a lasting impression on potential prospects. I can definitely see the value in incorporating video and other interactive features into business cards. In terms of pricing, I think $14.95 per month or $149.95 per year is a reasonable investment for the potential return on investment. As an iOS developer, I understand the importance of standing out and making a great impression, so I can definitely see the value in this product. As for features, I think the proposed launch features of attaching a video and/or 3d model, one-tap buttons for contact methods, and metrics to track card views, video watch duration, and link taps are all great. However, if I could suggest a feature, I'd love to see the ability to customize the AR experience further. It would be great to have the option to add interactive elements or even gamify the experience.Overall, I think this is a fantastic idea, and I'm excited to see where it goes.
