Would you want to see all your customer information and communications in one place?

Hey - we've been struggling with tracking the success of our customers and how we've communicated with them.

We're thinking about building an internal tool to handle customer communication (primarily via email). We could also release it publicly, so wanted to get this community's thoughts on whether this something you'd be interested in using for like 50/month?

Ultimately, I want to understand what all our users / customers are doing in our app, understand how successful / "healthy" they are, be able to easily see what emails I've sent various customers or customer segments, then automatically send emails to customers / segments.

Examples of things I want to be able to do:

  1. See which customers tried to use a specific feature today, which were successful in using the feature, and how many times did they use it?
  2. See over a period of time, which customers have not logged into our app, see whether I've emailed them, and see which ones I should email to figure out why they stopped using our app
  3. See which customers have declined in usage by some %, and then send emails to get them to reengage
  4. See what users are almost at the end of their trial, so I can send an email
  5. See what users signed up but then never logged in, so I can email them to understand why
  6. See all the communications (email, chat, etc.) I sent to a specific customer or all the individual users associated with that customer account

I've looked at traditional "customer success" tools but they're all relatively expensive, need a bunch of integrations, and they don't really allow me to filter users / customers based on how I've communicated with them. I can do most of the above manually in a bunch of different systems, but it's a pain.

Let me know if you're interested!

Hi, which customer success tools did you already look at, and how come they wouldn't let us filter users / customers based on how we've communicated with them. Could there be obstacles we don't know of right off the bat? What could be a reason that existing tools are relatively expensive, and if you say "relatively", what do you compare their pricing to, i f I may ask?

I've had this same idea a few times -- https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21480803 -- building out various SaaS-type services. I didn't do much customer development, but it would be interesting to know if people would be willing to pay for it. As someone else commented, it's a subset of CRM-type functionality. For me, #6 would be interesting, as an integration point into my own admin dashboard.

In an ideal world, I'd give you access to my data store, and you'd figure out all the interactions. But I wouldn't be comfortable giving a random third-party service that level of access.

I would think hard on how to build the absolute minimum product, and niche down as much as possible. It's already sounding too generic. I wish you the best of luck, hope you get to build it out with some validation :D

      Did you look at Segment?

This sounds like you’re at the boundary between Intercom and a CRM.

You could also get to a lot of these cases via Mixpanel.
