Write to your Children

Over the past 4 years, I've been developing a habit that is to write to my Children.

The thing here is that I've started doing it at my 24yo and I don't have any children, not even a girlfriend at the moment.

Then, why the hell do I do it?

What I intend to accomplish with the "Write to your Children" strategy that I've developed over the years is that, by writing to them (my Children can easily represent the next generation), I'm writing for posterity, to the next generation to come, and by doing so, I only write about the most important stuff about Human life.

When you write for posterity, suddenly all the noise of the daily rat race of our lives simply vanishes. You just care about the things that you wished you knew before or that someone told you earlier. You don't care anymore about your career advancement or if you reach a certain amount of goals each year. You don't worry about followers, money, fame, or any other material things, not even about those daily things that make you angry or frustrated. You realize things or people you've lost that you really miss and others that are completely superficial, a waste of your precious time, and how they don't really fill you.

What you really worry about, is to give them the best advice you can on how to live a better life, how to build genuine relationships, how to love and be successful, and more importantly, what success and love actually mean. You deconstruct complex topics about life and try to explain them as easily as possible. And the best part is that if you have children someday, then you'll be able to actually tell them some of these things.

Slowly, you start to build an overview perspective over life and realize that we go through a lot during our journey but in the end, it comes always to the core of what being Human really means: trying to be happy, find our path while we have time and live a meaningful life.

So try to write for your Children, even if you don't have them yet, even if you don't want to have them. You'll see that writing for posterity is the best exercise we can make to give us perspective on what really matters.

Have a great day.
Cheers 😊

@maevaeverywhere from my experience I can only tell you that it provides you clarity on your day to day life and problems. After all, there is so much that we go through that simply don't matter if we put it in a "posterity" or "long-term" perspective

100% true. Long term perspective brings clarity.

I love this. I think I'll do this too, maybe for every birthday. I'll write for posterity with a pen and paper and seal it in an envelope. Then gift it to my kid when they're 21 or something lol. Thank you so much for a creative and fun idea!

@seemcat that's the idea I have too, to someday later review my notes, compile on a book and give it to my sons at their 21 yo. I hope I can maintain such a long commitment, it would be awesome to come back to my notes 10 or 20 years later.

@8bit that's exactly what I go through too when I write for "them". I get a macro-level perspective about my earlier choices, my mistakes, and wins and how can I improve! Thank you for sharing :D

@ArchieTheUnicorn despite your website is well designed and very friendly, I'd say that there will be the day they will do the same shitty things we have done with their ages. Those will be days to practice some acceptance 😂
