I know it's pretty weird to celebrate the second sale. But the feeling that a customer buys twice from you is so reassuring.
I have written about my first sale milestone here. You can check it out in my history.
I started this project as a fun challenge on Twitter - to build and launch a product in 2 hours. I was able to complete the challenge successfully. After I shared it on Twitter, it immediately got featured in Ben's Bites (100k subscribers), and a couple of other newsletters. And Robert Scoble (450k followers) shared the project on his Twitter. So, I was able to pick up the momentum and traffic.
You can check out the product here:
It took me nearly 1.5 months since launching to find the first customer. And then 20 days to land on the second sale. This second sale is very special to me because it's a sign of validation. Actually, it's the same employer who posted a job listing for the second time which means my site has been sending them good traffic of applicants. That prompted them to post the second job as well.
My goal in 2024 is to make it the go-to job board to find jobs in all the cutting edge AI companies. I am focusing more on SEO to make it happen. If you have experience with bootstrapping job boards, please share your advice. I will appreciate them.
I build my products publicly on Twitter. I write about all my learnings and milestones here. You can follow along to learn and grow together.
Thanks for reading.
It's great! Do you think build in public on Twitter is one of the main traffic stream for your product? What kinds of posts of build in public would attract attentions.
Congratulations on your second sale milestone! Keep up the great work with Moai Jobs. Wishing you continued success in making it the go-to job board for AI companies!
Congratz mate
Amazing result mate! Getting a second sale is a big milestone for those who just started their SaaS entrepreneurial journey without spending any diam in marketing. Great job mate, keep it up!
I'm in a learning process right now, and I want to start with a simple project and try to scale it as far as I can if it gains some traction. Your story makes me believe that I don't need to start with a huge and complicated project. All I need is to start and learn more every day. Congratulations on your achievement.
fwiw, whenever I think about building the next Facebook or a Unicorn, I always feel my motivation shredded and not doing any work. It just results in self-loathing. So, I just take simple ideas and try to offer value. This keeps me in the arena. So, I would suggest to you as well.
Congrats!
Congrats on your second sale ! It's a big milestone, especially since it's from a repeat customer, underscoring the value your site offers. Launching as a 2-hour challenge and gaining traction through high-profile shares is impressive.
So I started sharing my process on Twitter and Indie Hackers, but part of me whispers to share it on my personal blog. What do you think about this?
If you feel the motivation is there for you to write on your blog, do it. I also sometimes think about a blog seriously but I haven't got the motivation to do so. Therefore short blogs like Twitter work well for me.
Congrats on your achievement. I am also building some kind of job board which is in early stage.I am just wondering what payment gatway you have used and what do you suggest? as I have seen paddle and lemonsqueezy prohibit job boards.
Congratulations! I've been following you for a while now and you keep me motivated to move forward
That's nice to hear. Ship something soon.
Congratulations Nithur! Here's a couple of observations.
It's smart of you to focus on a trending niche as you're up against some very big players. Also smart to populate it with a lot of jobs — important from a user perspective.
Some things to consider:
Data integrity is important for UX — job boards with outdated data won't get limited engagement and few returning visitors.
Use structured data too enhance search visibility — didn't check this so maybe you already are.
Find an AI community that you can partner with. The idea is to get yourself embedded within the community so you can get their traffic. You do the same with your site, so that the community can benefit from your traffic. It's a win-win.
Create an outbound marketing program to reach out to the HR department of the sites where you're sending significant traffic. Use your traffic data to show that getting a premium listing on your job board is worth the investment.
Congrats on your achievement. Job board is interesting topic. I also have one idea related to it but still haven't touched it 😎
Congratulations! I saw your tweet as well on X :)
nice, thanks.
Congratulations on your milestone!
Your perseverance and dedication are inspiring, and your transparency in sharing your journey is invaluable for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you Prakhar.
Congratulations!
Thanks mate
Well done
Thank you Joy
Well think about it this way.
A $199 sale is nothing to scoff at.
It's equivalent to ~20 $10 sales.
And people celebrate that for sure.
Congrats! That's super exciting. I'm always fascinated to see how such heavy traffic translates to sales. Overall, I think you got some great backlinks which sets you up for SEO success.
Thanks Zach, I appreciate it.
Hey Nithur
Great work on your second sale!
Do you know about referral selling?
It will add another dimension to your thought process on building more clients.
I was in sales for a long time and it was the number 1 way in new client acquisition!
Get yourself some simple referral based emails to help your clients refer you, you don’t just say hey can you refer me to someone you know, have a process in place with a script to give them, send this to X people and get me 1 referral for Y reward.
The best sales rep you’ll ever have is your client base so train them early !
Best of luck
Barry
Congratulations! That's not weird at all! You made $199 in 1.5 months, this is very good in fact!
I was also very happy when I made my first sale yesterday, just two days after I publicly released my website, WebCurate.co.
The feeling is very heartwarming.
Congrats!
Thanks Steven
Congratulations mate
Thanks mate.
congratulations 🎊
Thank you Jitesh
Congrats man, still looks to open books, I am trying cold outreach via email for now
Congrats! I am still looking for my first official sale.
Thanks man.
If you have a B2B product, I'd suggest cold outreach to get your first customer.
Thanks for the suggestion! I am planning start it soon!
Props to your second sale, man! It's not weird at all to celebrate - i think it shows that your hard work is paying off and that people are coming back for more. What are your challenges / next steps atm?
Keep it up and keep us updated on your progress!
Thanks Patrick for the words.
My next step is to focus more on SEO.
I'll update my progress on here and Twitter.
Congratulations Nithur on your second sale! I love how honest you are with your story and also the point of "build in 2 hours" :)
Thank you Prem.
For me, build in public is all about transparency and honesty.
Congratulation Nithur for your second sale 👏, but can you share your Twitter profile?
Thank you.
I totally forgot that others can't see our Twitter link in the new IH design.
