So, I’ve been working on a content repurposing SaaS side project (contentrepurposing.ai) that takes a URL and spits out AI-generated content ideas based on links on the. And like every other SaaS founder who’s stared at a pricing page for too long, I’ve tried way too many pricing models already.
• Fixed pricing? Too predictable.
• Subscription? Nobody wants another subscription.
• Pay-per-use? Makes sense, but then I have to pick a price, and that’s a whole existential crisis.
The Latest Experiment: Randomized Pricing
Instead of charging a flat fee per content idea, the app randomly assigns a price to each suggestion (e.g., $0.10, $1.49, $0.19). Users see the price before they decide to buy. No reason for the number—just vibes and chaos.
What I Hoped Would Happen
• People would feel like they were getting a deal when they saw a lower price.
• Some kind of psychological magic would make them buy more.
• I’d look like a genius pricing strategist instead of someone throwing darts at a wall.
What’s Actually Happening
• Users gravitate toward mid-range prices, even with cheaper options available.
• Some say it’s “fun” and “game-like”, which is a nice way of saying “weird.”
• A few asked if they could reshuffle prices (which I hadn’t considered but now feels obvious).
Still Figuring Out…
• Does this feel engaging or just annoying?
• Would you be more or less likely to buy something if the price fluctuated randomly?
• Is this clever, or have I finally lost it on pricing?
At this point, I’ll take any feedback—good, bad, or just mildly entertained reactions. Let me know what you think.
