I talked about validating a product in 1 week on LinkedIn. That post got 6k views. And I got a question: "Didn't you validate Autofatura too fast?"
Nope. But people think that's fast because they forget to consider TIME!
Building products takes times, and when you're an indie maker, that means time away from family, friends, and hobbies.
So I basically do this math:
Let's say my hour is worth 100€ - it's worth a lot since I'm giving up things I like.
Now let's say developing the full product takes 100 hours.
To that, I add 50% because I'm bad at predicting 😆
So that's 150 hours, times 100. This project costs 15.000€!
And from customer research I found that revenue predictions were extremely low - 200, maybe 500€/month.
That means I would need 2.5 YEARS to break even, assuming I didn't have maintenance costs 🙃
So, I gave up from THIS product - not from making!
I need to find an idea with either 1) a lower cost or 2) an higher expected revenue.
I take a 5% success ratio when it comes to projects. That means I need to build 20 projects before I find one that works well.
So I guess I'll keep shipping fast, so I can keep spending time with family, friends, and doing things I love ❤️
