You are looking for a tool to do better 1-on-1s with your direct reports and come to this landing page. Is it what you are searching for?

Hi,

Say you are a manager and you do five one-on-ones every week. Currently you use notebook or a running Google doc but you are not happy. You search for one-on-one tool and come to this landing page https://www.peoplebox.ai/one-on-one-meeting-software/

Would you sign-up?

PS:- We are running a campaign and not getting the results we hope for. Keen to hear some constructive feedback.

    Looks good. Some feedback:

    • I don't understand this? "Dipsick of Motivation, Wins & Challenges before 1-on-1."
    • You are using capitalization in a weird way: "Convert Any point to Action-Item and track it"
    • Personally, I don't care for those boxes where you are better than all other products on all parameters - that is an immediate bullshit alert for me.
    • Big pain for me around 1on1's is scheduling. I would love to make it simpler to ensure that people get their meetings when things get in the way, we have to cancel and people get onboarded at random times.

Thanks @utdiscant. This is very helpful. The purpose of the table was to show how peoplebox can be better than your existing 1-on-1 but the feedback is very helpful to know from a user perspective if its adding any value or not.

Can you help me understand a bit more about Scheduling? What I understand is that a lot of your 1-on-1s get cancelled and it's challenging to find the right time to re-schedule. Is that correct?

Yeah. So I have 1on1's monthly with about 10 people. Often someone is on holiday, sick or something comes in the way for me. People also sometimes start their job out of schedule. Right now I have to remember when people have 1on1s, and if something gets in the way I have to reschedule with them and find a new time. Would love to just have that happening automatically.

Thanks David. I'm really sorry for delay in replying. I don't know how I completely missed it.

Are your 1-on-1s scheduled recurringly in the calendar? In case you are doing 10 one on ones every month, any idea how many of these get rescheduled. I agree getting a suggestion/ recommendation in case you are rescheduling on the next available times would be very helpful. Thanks a ton for this. We would definitely try and build something around it.

Also Just curious to understand your reasoning behind monthly 1-on-1s. Is it the time it takes to do with 10 reports or you feel a month is a good time to do this? Generally, most of the people we see do it either weekly or fortnightly thats why I'm a bit curious.

We are trying Duuoo right now to manage 1-on-1's, but it is super buggy and I can't add new team members right now.

Having monthly 1on1's with 10 people already takes up an entire workday for me out of ~20 workdays in a month. If I did that twice a month, I would be spending 10% of my time in 1on1 meetings which does not make sense to me.

For 90% of my 1on1's people report back that they are super happy, have very little feedback and we often end up just chatting about other things. So right now it doesn't seem useful to extend it.

            1. 1

That's very interesting. Usually, are there any agendas beforehand? Does Duuoo suggest any talking points/ agenda/ template for you or your directs?

Also if you don't mind me asking, how do you do your 1-on-1s? Walking or in a meeting room. Are notes taken?

Since you have a lot of reports and you are regular at one-on-ones , you may like this https://www.peoplebox.ai/t/one-on-one-meeting-template-manager-questions-list (we built it for fun)

Sorry for the constant bombardment of questions. You have no idea how super helpful you are being in guiding us build a great one on one tool :)

Bouncing off of this, I would say that the idea looks good (but I am NOT your target market), but the copy seems off.

I like to look at things from this framework (stolen from April's book Obviously Awesome):

You know your features, and you know how they translate to benefits. But you want to go one step deeper, into values. Example:

      1. Feature: What feature did I implement that's unique?
      • Example on a camera: 15 megapixel camera
      1. Benefit: What benefit does this feature give my ideal user?
      • Example: Clear photos with crisp edges
      1. Value: Why does my customer want this?
      • Example: Capture memories of your loved ones perfectly

It feels like you stopped at benefits. Sam gave you some great insights into exactly what you should be looking to speak to for values

Thanks a lot @SamBallantyne. This is super helpful. You are right. We can speak about the outcome or the core value proposition that we are offering.

On a different note, do you use anything for your 1-on-1s. Diary, Google Doc, Apple notes, Asana etc?

      1. 1

As someone who has been the participant in 1-on-1s, rather than the organizer, I agree with @SamBallantyne. I've always been sent a Google Calendar invite that has "Meeting Outcomes" attached in the notes section, plus "Preparatory Questions" for me to think through our last 1-on-1. I think my advisor simply kept up with his direct reports with a CRM style software.

Focusing on the outcome makes people think beyond their initial "my process is already actionable" rebuttal.

Absolutely agree Trent. Its definitely something for us to work on.

Since you are a regular user of 1-on-1s, I'd to ask how do take notes during the meeting and how do you track your action items?

Is there any specific problem that you find with your 1-on-1s that if a software solve, you would love to use it . :)
