You beta test my product, I'll beta test yours!

http://pulsemetrics.io

Hi guys,

As I'm sure we all know, finding your first sign ups is HARD. I fully sympathize with anyone starting up their SAAS business from the ground floor.

If anyone here would be so kind as to beta test my team's new free web and mobile analytics software (pulsemetrics.io), I'd certainly take the time to test out your new products as well. Just comment below with a URL to your product and I'll give it a spin and try to give some of my A-1 feedback.

Any feedback or necessary improvements you could recommend for my product would be much appreciated as well!

    Hey mjcarp!

    Will this work along side Google Analytics? Also, is it free?
    My project is https://goalgrowth.com

    I'm interested in trying this out.

    1. 1

      Hi so while you could certainly run this alongside GA, we'd of course prefer our users to use Pulse exclusively. We consider GA our competitor, next step is of course to have them think that as well ha!

      I'll report back with what I see about your product

      1. 2

        I'd first say that the signup portal is either broken or I can't figure it out, because it keeps bouncing back without giving me an error message. (Nvm it just requires a strong password, I'd make sure to indicate that on the signup page).

        Why is your calendar for goal setting backwards? The 18th should be to the right of the 17th and so on...

        Is the niche you're trying to fill with this project that you receive email notifications about goals that you want to hit?

        1. 1

          Okay, fixed. I also added pulsemetrics.

        2. 1

          Oh thanks for spotting that. I'll put a fix out for that soon.

          It's backwards cause I want to show today(first) from left to right. People read from left to right. Also it's more helpful to see back the last couple days then forward. Cause forward should be blank.

          I built this project to mainly scratch my own itch. I want an easy way to see all my goals and keep track of them.

          1. 1

            Ah ok if it's a platform exclusively for checking off what you did than mayyyybe. I still think I'd rather have today all the way to the right, but I'm only one person of course.

            If this is just a personal pet project, hats off to you man.

            1. 1

              I'm gonna make a note of your feedback. If I continue to get that. I'll change it.

              On PulseMetrics, there should be a way to let me know if I correctly installed the script.

  2. 1

    Hey mjcarp,

    Nice web service. Easy to setup.

    • When viewing the script, the copy button doesn't work (so I have to highlight and manually copy).
    • It would be nice to more easily show the script (or button to show the script) somewhere more visible on the dashboard (not in the User menu). It took me a while to find.
    • Just a thought, but I assume trackers are blocked if users have anti-tracking extensions. Does Pulse Metrics support server-side tracking? Could be a good differentiator.
    • It would be nice to explain when/why to use the 'Production' vs 'Staging' script.
    • Are there API docs?

    Minor:

    • When in the app, it'd be nice to escape a modal by clicking outside or 'esc' key. (ex. when clicking 'Technical Details' or 'SDK and Scripts'
    • On landing page:
    • "supports all three major platforms - Websites, blogs, web apps, SPA (Single Page Apps), iPhone (iOS) and Android apps." Just a little confusing when you say "three major platforms" and list more than three things.
    • "Your developer will thank thank you!" typo
    • "See how we’re better than Mixpanel and Google Analytics" I expected a section or page that shows a table comparing different features
    • "View Setup Guides" isn't clickable

    Hope this helps!

    Would love any feedback on my site that is still in beta! https://wingnotes.app

    1. 1

      Oops accidentally deleted my comment but our landing page was updated less than 10 minutes before you reviewed it haha!

      For your site I'll give ya some feedback:

      • The pop-up toolbar gets hidden behind the left most taskbar if your note that you're, say bolding, isn't long enough for the entirety of the toolbar to be visible.
      • Looks like the dating doesn't show for me on the left side after I save a note (The "updated at" section).
      • If you get the dating working, I would say that I really like your save methods and that I can export my notes.
      • Having a feedback button is awesome, I like that a lot
      • I imagine this would be excellent in a coding framework, sadly I'm a marketer so those features aren't helpful to me, though I'll pass this along to my CS friends when I go back to school in the fall because I could see them getting some use out of this
      1. 1

        Thanks for the feedback! Will work on those points. Would really appreciate it if you passed it along to your CS friends in school! I made it with programming note-taking in mind.

        Also another important thing about Pulse Metrics I forgot. In the generated script, I believe you want to wrap the "https://s3.amazonaws.com/pulsemetrics/pulse-metrics.js" in quotes. Currently it is not:

        <script   type="text/javascript" >
          (function(a,s,k,p,r) {
            r = a.createElement('script');
            r.type = 'text/javascript';
            r.async = true;
            r.onload = function(){PULSELIB.init([k,p])};
            r.src = s;
            a.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(r);
          }(document, https://s3.amazonaws.com/pulsemetrics/pulse-metrics.js, "0C4DIfGwmRDcgbCaNmFpDT9Z2wFRWI0gdtkZ2ds8NyiEd5ul5Y", 'pulse'));
        </script>

        If it matters, I use Typescript and it doesn't compile correctly if the quotes are excluded.

      2. 1

        Also thank you thank you thank you for giving us that feedback it helps us immensely.

    Hey, I like the interface and all, just tested It a little bit and I'm planning to use It on my next project.

    One thing that bothered me, why I need to receive an email in order to log in? It's a cool feature, but the fact that I have to open my email every time I want to log in is kinda annoyng.

    1. 1

      We understand the annoyances behind magic link logins, and we're looking into other forms of logins. One of the clear advantages we see from using it though is that it's far and away one of the best ways for your info to be secure.

      We don't plan on being hacked any time soon, but if the worst case scenario comes to pass the last thing we want is for all of our users' info to be out there on the dark web, hence our magic link login process for now.

  4. 1

    Comment to save. I'll be back in a couple of days.

    I'm game. Here is a link to my site - https://www.vertex360.co
    I signed up for Pulse Metrics, went through the on-boarding and added the production script. I also deployed it to my home page (https://www.vertex360.co) so the setup was pretty smooth. I'll check in on the analytics dashboard every day for a while and let you know what I think. So far, the onboarding was smooth and simple. Also worth noting that I am a full stack developer (Node/Express, React, Redux, AWS blah blah) with 7 years of professional experience with whatever technical acumen that implies.

    1. 1

      I'm on mobile for a lil bit but I'll have your site beta tested by noon tomorrow I promise. If I don't please remind me here so I can get it done

      1. 1

        Ok I'm going to just type this out as I go through your platform so this might be a little stream of consciousness-ish.

        • Your templates page doesn't have consistent capitalization, either capitalize every template's name or don't capitalize any of them
        • I really like that you give people the option of downloading the code from the admin console.
        • A few spelling mistakes, grammar stuff on the pages, blah blah blah just get your neighborhood English major to brush over your site and you'll be good on that front.
        • If someone wants an extra site, would that be a $5 one-time purchase or monthly? Just add a couple words there to make it clearer.
        • You have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to sign up. Make a BIG Sign Up button somewhere noticeable right when you get to the site, I totally get that you spent some time writing up all the content and you want people to see that, but you gotta have an option for people who might already know what you do (or are lazy tbh).
        • Wow holy hell this is a crazy easy way to design a website from a template.
        • Does your site do domain registrations? If so that's fantastic, if not I assume that could be a growth point in the future but definitely not necessary right now.
        • Yep same thing with your website templates. I always have been taught to have "register" and "sign up" buttons in extremely clear locations on your landing pages, add in that functionality.

        I hope this helps at least a bit, I'm sadly not a developer so I can't give in depth feedback on some of your elements. Glad I could help and I'll keep your site in mind for the times when my team doesn't want to custom design a site.

    A-1 feedback
    What's A-1?

    Here's my review, I don't have a product to review (yet) but I will definitely will keep a tab on you :P (jk... or am I?)

    First of all, the landing page is very clear and the live demo prices-less

    Somethings I found and might (or not up to you) be improved.

    • There's no way to delete my account

    • When I click back and forth from web, android, ios, my previous input was deleted
      (I was expecting to be there still)

    • If the same app name is used in the android version nothing happens (there's no error saying it is already in use nor a android specific instructions)

    • There's no way to access the code once it was created (very common case if I didn't write it down)

    UPDATE( I found it under account information / SKD, that explains why it was deleted from the original form )

    • The error message when the invite email was myself disappear right away (and wasn't very clear)

    • There was an error sending email to an invite

    • I've got timeout trying to reach the endpoint (but that was probably my corporate network)
      ( does it really have to ping that often?)

    Minor:

    • The code was a bit hard to read, maybe using "code" box with a "coder" font would help
    • It would be cool to be able to change the green color for something that I like (this is very superflous I know) Maybe allowing me to match my company color (which I don't have atm)
    1. 1

      Hey Oscar

      Wow thanks a ton for taking the time to review my work. This is extremely helpful.

      In fact most of these have been worked on in my current sprint and I'll be pushing them to live in the next day or so.

      Stay tuned. Big update coming!

      Quite excited to hear what you think of it.

      Thanks again

    I'd welcome fullstack devs who are familiar with Python to sign up for our upcoming beta -- if that sounds like you, here's the link: https://learn.alwaysai.co/beta

      Specifically? We're working to improve our landing page currently so that probably wouldn't be very necessary.

      I'd say probably the overall layout of our dashboards and the ease of being able to integrate a website or app into our system are aspects that haven't been tested very much. Also if you have any suggestions for things we should add to our service to improve it we'd greatly appreciate those as well.
