You don’t need more traffic. You need more buying moments.

Something clicked for me this week.

Most indie founders try to increase traffic.

But revenue doesn’t come from traffic.

It comes from buying moments.

A buying moment is when someone says:

“Anyone know a tool for X?”

“How do you solve Y?”

“Looking for something that does Z.”

Those moments are rare, short-lived, and scattered across Reddit, X, LinkedIn.

And most of us miss them.

Not because demand doesn’t exist.

But because we arrive too late.

I used to think growth = build → post → hope.

Now I think growth = detect → respond → help.

This changed everything:

• Fewer cold messages

• More real conversations

• Higher intent users

• Less “marketing”, more customers

Still early, still learning, but one realization stands out:

You don’t need more visibility.

You need to stop missing people who are already looking.

Curious for other founders here:

How do you currently find customers?

Inbound, outbound, or just hoping they show up?

I think you're right, and I'm moving in the direction you described. It's important to gradually build and maintain this relationship, starting from zero feedback.

Give a try to my Reddit Extension. It's a Chrome extension called Pulse of Reddit that basically acts like my own alert system for Reddit.

Anytime someone posts something with keywords I care about like 'looking for a designer' or 'best SEO tool' it pings me right away. It’s saved me so much time and helped me hop into threads while they’re still fresh.

If you’re tired of manual digging and want to catch those conversations early, I’d really recommend giving it a look.

It’s free to start and super simple to set up.

Appreciate that Eric — that shift from chasing to understanding is where things start compounding.

One thing that helped me a lot was seeing real buying conversations instead of guessing what users want. It removes a lot of blind spots, especially early when feedback is scarce.

If you’re exploring this direction, youll find leadsynth useful:

Curious what stage you’re at right now — still validating, or already getting users?

      1. 1

It is currently in the validation phase, and I have abandoned the previous way of technical implementation. Now the optimized steps are: 1. Discover the requirements instead of thinking about the requirements; 2. Conduct publicity and demonstration first, through waitlist and miniature demo; 3. Decide whether to officially launch based on feedback.

Even if you make changes, you still face many difficulties: 1. The matching of needs with your own capabilities, including technical capabilities (not a problem now), and most importantly, in terms of upfront investment, not all problems are capable of solving them; 2. Limited influence, even if you find a valuable point, your voice still cannot reach and function effectively

        1. 1

That is a very solid approach. Shifting from “building first” to discover → validate → decide saves a huge amount of wasted effort.

What you described are actually two of the hardest problems in early stage:

          1. Capability vs problem size

Not every valuable problem is solvable with limited resources. The key is finding decision-close demand where small execution can still create value. You do not need to solve the biggest problem, only a real and urgent one.

          2. Limited reach / influence

This is where many good ideas stall. Even when the value is clear, if the right people do not see it at the right moment, feedback stays weak and validation becomes slow.

One thing that helped me was observing real problem conversations instead of relying only on waitlists or passive feedback. When you see people actively asking for solutions, validation becomes much clearer and faster.

If you want, you might find this useful while validating:

Great point — more buying moments > more traffic. Traffic without conversion fundamentals is like pushing water uphill. Curious which tactics you’ve seen most effectively create those buying moments?

Btw — if anyone here leads a small team and hates status meetings, check out Owlyn: async visibility into what’s shipping, what’s blocked, and what needs attention → https://www.owlyn.xyz/

    1. 1

Good point — buying moments usually happen when real pain + urgency collide, not from traffic alone.

For something like Owlyn, your best customers are already out there talking about:

      • messy team visibility

      • painful status meetings

      • lack of async clarity

      • blockers slowing shipping

Those conversations happen daily across Reddit, X, and LinkedIn — the challenge is catching them while they’re still deciding, not after.

That’s exactly what we built LeadSynth for — it surfaces real-time conversations where people are actively looking for solutions like yours, so you can show up early and help, not pitch.

The biggest friction point for most founders isn't finding leads—it's the 'Contextual Research' required to make the first message land. If LeadSynthAI can bridge the gap between 'Here is a name' and 'Here is a legitimate reason to talk to them,' you’ve solved the biggest bottleneck in founder-led sales. Are you focusing on building this as a standalone dashboard, or are you planning to push these 'synthesized insights' directly into existing CRMs like HubSpot?

    1. 1

You've nailed the exact problem — a name and a company without context is just a cold list, which is what every other lead gen tool gives you. The "legitimate reason to reach out" is the actual product. LeadSynth surfaces the conversation itself as the context: the founder isn't guessing why someone might need their tool, they're responding to a person who just publicly said "I need exactly this." The research is already done by the time the lead lands.

On the CRM question — integrations are on the roadmap, HubSpot and Slack being the most requested. Right now the focus is getting the detection and drafted outreach tight enough that the insights are genuinely useful before pushing them into existing workflows. A bad insight in a CRM just creates noise at scale. But if that's your setup and you want early access when we ship it, worth jumping on the waitlist at leadsynthai.app — would love your feedback as someone who clearly thinks about this layer deeply.

This really resonates, the shift from “how do I get more traffic” to “how do I stop missing people already searching” is a big mental unlock. The examples you shared about seeing posts too late are painfully relatable.

    1. 1

Appreciate that, and exactly. Timing changes everything.

Same product, same market, different outcome; just based on whether you show up during the decision or after it.

Once I focused on seeing real buying conversations instead of chasing traffic, growth became much more predictable.

You are basically reframing distribution as real-time support instead of broadcasting, which feels way more sustainable for indie teams.

This reframed many things for me. ~

I invested too much time since I’ve been trying to “get traffic” but I did not even know that there were moments, literally asking for a tool like mine.

I felt the line about getting too late. I have noticed posts much later on, days after they were made with no comments.

The approach of detect, respond, and help is much closer to how real customers show up than the old build, post, hope loop.

    1. 1

      It really is.

Whenever I do SEO for any SaaS brand, I make sure I only target the keywords or topics that bring in buyers. Not people who're just curious and lurking around.

    1. 1

Exactly — buyer-intent keywords beat curiosity traffic every time.

What you’re doing on SEO is the same principle we see across conversations: signal over noise.

For most SaaS brands, the real buyers are already expressing intent in places like Reddit threads, X discussions, and LinkedIn comments — not just Google. The challenge is catching those intent signals early, before competitors do.

That’s essentially what LeadSynth does: it surfaces real-time buying conversations so SaaS founders can engage while intent is still fresh, not after the decision is made.

      Appreciate that, Ghazal.

That’s exactly the idea, most founders spend hours searching for users while real buyers are already talking about their problems in public. The value isn’t just finding conversations, but catching them while the intent is still active.

When founders show up at the right moment, acquisition stops feeling like marketing and starts feeling like helping.
