You don't need to build all your new habits at once

When you're struggling building your business it's tempting to think that you have to adopt a bunch of new habits at once in order to be "successful" .

You think you have to start reading, meditating, fasting, running, cold showers and a keto diet all at once because you heard it on a podcast.

But this isn't the case.

This desire to change everything at once is often just impatience.

Impatience is tricky and causes us to take on to much in an unsustainable way.

Instead of going all in. You should focus on adding one or two simple habits.

You'll be tempted to add more. But just stick with those for now.

After 21-60 days these habits will be a part of your routine and you'll have some new found self belief and momentum to help you build more.

Before you know it you'll be happier, healthier and more fulfilled.

From there, you just repeat the cycle.

Slowly but surely becoming the person you want to be.

You can start building these one or two habits with https://streakoid.com.

The most popular daily habits are Reading, Meditating and Programming.

If you need anything don't hesitate to reach out.

I like this take @reecekidd. It reminds me of the Kaizen method for self improvement:

"Instead of trying to make radical changes in a short amount of time, just make small improvements every day that will gradually lead to the change you want. Each day, just focus on getting 1% better in whatever it is you’re trying to improve. That’s it. Just 1%."

I love this approach and been working on getting 1% better every day for the past years, but never knew how to call it – Kaizen.

Now I know. Thanks for sharing!

I love Ben Franklin's habit framework in his auto-biography. Basically, build your habits on each other. Without one habit, it's hard to form others.

We need patience to build habit, as we need patience to build a business.

Building a habit is performing an action repeatedly for a period of time, and then be very careful not to begin another habit negating the one you've spent time to build. You can never say "I have this habit now, and it will stay forever".

But when the habit is built and you really don't need to think about it to follow it, it open so many doors.

Exactly, it's all about getting to the point where the new habit is adopted as a normal part of your routine. 💪

Completely agree. The mind (and body) can only handle so much change in a given time period. Best book on how to build up habits is Atomic Habits

Yes I absolutely loved Atomic Habits. James Clear earn't his name for his clear writing style. lol

@gordon Great quote! Do you know any good books or resources that explore the Kaizen method? Would love to read more.

No worries @reecekidd. I don't have any specific resources, however, I know it is a practise implemented in Japanese culture and Toyota are famous for adopting this approach to growing their business. I remember reading a case study about it many years ago. I will do some further research and maybe even write an article on it soon.
