The problem isn't that people don't take good notes. It's this: People read things, feel like they understood them, and then forget everything 48 hours later. And they've accepted this as normal.
You have 2,400 notes in your app. You never look at any of them twice.
Cognir builds a live 3D map of connections you didn't know existed. Your notes become navigable knowledge.
Cognir is a private, browser-based "thinking environment" that forces you to actively engage with what you read rather than passively store information.
Its core philosophy is: "Every sentence that matters should cost you a thought."
Here is how it works and what makes it different:
It is not a note-taking app. Most tools help you store information, which leads to passive reading and forgetting. Cognir forces you to annotate by selecting text and writing your own reaction or thought about it.
It uses AI to build a 3D "Knowledge Map." Your annotations and notes are fed to an AI (using your own API key), which extracts key concepts and connections to build an interactive, 3D Zettelkasten (a network of linked ideas).
It is completely private. There are no servers or accounts. Everything (notes, settings, keys) lives in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). Nothing leaves your machine except the text you deliberately send to an AI provider via your own key.
It is a system, not just a tool. It includes a document reader (for PDFs, Word files, etc.), a multi-page note editor with rich text and math symbols, an annotation system, a 3D knowledge graph viewer, and an export tool to compile your thinking into paragraphs, bullet points, or a report.
