You probably shouldn't work at a startup

Good article, I think it depends a lot on the stage of your career and your own goals, but it would be a good idea to temper expectations to be honest.

Nice read! It will really depend on the individual's goals whether it'll be right for them or not, hence the "probably" on the title.

Startups can be messy, but I also love that they are still in their infancy so everything is still fixable. This is not the case with a company who have been running for 10, 20 or 50 years: Policies are rigid, business strategies are outdated, and paperwork becomes needlessly endless to document ridiculous processes. I'd choose a startup any day because it means you are always innovating and growing. No, it's not easy, and yes there will be problems, but that's what makes you feel like you've achieved something, right?

I posted this question on IH a few months back - Should I work at a startup if I want to launch my own? The responses were mixed, and I think that shows that it really depends on the person and what they want to get out of it. This is a good post and you make lots of valid points. It still doesn't put me off wanting to work at a startup.
