"Your HEY invite - finally!"

This is the message I wrote asking for an invite to the oft-discussed service from the founders of Basecamp.

πŸ‘‡

I remember email when it was white text on blue. Over POP and SMTP, in Outlook Express and then Outlook.

Gmail was a revelation. No wonder people sold their invites on eBay.

I hate the fact that privacy can't be taken for granted. Even though I "don't have anything to hide", I don't trust my communications to anyone - to the extent that I can.

So I use ProtonMail, and if I knew anyone who'd humor me enough to set up some PGP keys, I'd use that as well.

The unfortunate result is that my email is now harder to search than Gmail, and has a slower interface in general. Because the bodies are encrypted, they're not indexed (as far as I know). So search kinda sucks.

I'm very curious to see how Hey improves upon the email experience... I used Basecamp since the days of "holy shit! Ajax is amazing!"

Thank you, good luck, and I hope to try it out soon.

Michael

Good news is that I got an invite today and have 2 more invite codes to share. First two interested parties get them!

(Anyone else with invite codes to share, feel free to connect below)

I'm still waiting on my invite. No idea if it's coming but I emailed them asking for one.

I've always been pretty happy with Gmail but in recent years my inbox gets a bit out of control and I'm hoping HEY will help with that. If it does I'll definitely pay for it.

Right now I'm mostly interested in getting in early so that I can hopefully score firstname@hey.com or something equally nice.

Yep - I have @marclar all over the place, so I'd like to keep that but doubt I'm gonna pay to do so.

  2. 2

I've got 2 left as well if anyone wants.

I got my invite yesterday as well. And faced the exact same issue with email navigation. GMail is not broken, and so I don't really see myself moving out of it anytime soon - to a paid service at that.

Although, I did manage to get a first.last@hey.com - wonder what happens to that after my trial is up.

I listen to the Rework podcast... I believe if you've ever been a paid subscriber (even if just for a short period) your email address will be retained forever,. For the users who sign up for free trial only, their email will be up for grabs after some time.

        1. 1

          That makes sense. Thank you

I'm guessing it takes some time getting used to it. It's a tough sell - people complain about email enough, but trying to get them into an entirely new workflow must be difficult.
