That's a great post. Reminded me of Derek Sivers' post on ideas vs. execution: https://sive.rs/multiply

I have been in such situations a lot of times. I constantly get contacted by visionaries who want me to sign their NDAs to reveal the next big thing. I think it is lack of experience that leads to false wisdom that your idea is worth something.

I always tell them to go to an online forum or Reddit, and get feedback fast. Their ideas are sometimes so absurd, like -- I have an idea how to make a Google Clone, I just need a good software/web developer (he means me working for free).

Here are two quotes from the venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki:

    1. As a rule of thumb, if you have a good idea, five companies are doing the same thing. If you have a great idea, fifteen companies are doing the same thing.

    2. My hypothesis is that the more an entrepreneur insists on a nondisclosure agreement, the less viable the idea.

    Classic, thanks for sharing.

The 10-course meal is a perfect analogy of the difference between idea and execution. People really underestimate the value of execution and put too much emphasis on the idea alone.
