How many of us have worked those mind numbing hours so long, that you see the sun rise twice without sleeping once!?
I've been there! Thankfully I stopped doing that. Maybe it's just because I've gotten older, or maybe it was always the case, but nowadays I'm completely worthless if I miss a night of sleep. Even earlier in the night, I can tell I'm making worse (usually lazier) decisions than I do in the mornings. I'm still a night owl though.
Yikes! It's a marathon not a sprint. Sleep makes you good at your job.
Totally agree! When I used to do some late nighters I wasn't able to touch code for a week afterwards. Better to have a sustainable pace!
40 hours straight with hardly any food/bathroom breaks....
It was absolutely miserable 😅 I crashed pretty hard afterwards
done this once , wasent even for my own company. Still got laid off. Never work 3 jobs
My longest sessions will have been in my late teens, early twenties. As I'm approaching 30 I feel like I'm not able to do those long sessions anymore. But my skills also vastly improved so I think that levels things out...
Without sleeping, the longest day was waking up at 7am on a Thursday, and not going to sleep until Friday at about 3pm.
With a couple of short naps, the longest working session was getting to work on Friday at 9am, and getting home at 9pm on Sunday.
Haven't done anything like that in about 15 years.
More recently I've done a couple of Startup Weekends that are 54h long and got about 6 hours sleep.
I don't remember what day I woke up :)
I have had more than a few of those days! Not so much anymore now that I have kids, but a few years back, it was a regular occurrence.
Well that make me feel bad because I have two kids and they always tell me I work too much!
I experienced the same thing, that is why I changed my ways. I still work to much, but I make sure to have dedicated time with my family with no laptop or phone! I still get stuff done but I am happier in general.
A couple of weeks ago I woke up a 5:00 am and worked, drove and worked until the next day at 4:00 am. No Break!
