Your Mobile Phone: Addictive Time Suck Or Content Creation Device?

I've noticed recently that I've been checking Twitter and my Google news feed way more often recently than I used to.

We all know that apps such as these are designed to put the most interesting content in our faces when we pick up our device - it's the attention economy at work, making advertizing dollars from our attention.

As businesss owners this isn't always helpful as we all have many hats to wear and a lot to think about as it is.

This got me thinking -mobile phones weren't invented for this, they were supposed to be communication devices not just consumption devices.

If I posted something every time I checked my phone I'd be super prolific on social media and the blogosphere to say the least.

What if I train myself to use my phone for creativity first, consumption second? These are amazing creativity tools after all.

We have the google docs for article writing, you can even dictate to it now.

We have top quality camera / video recording capabilities.

There are even coding platforms like https://codeanywhere.com/ where you can develop software using your mobile.

What do the indiehackers out there think. Do you use mobile phones for creation?

I'd be interested to hear any successful stories of using mobiles for creation or tips on how to flip that switch from consumption to creation.

Looking forward to any thoughts on this.

The fact that creation and consumption happen on the same app makes it difficult.

When Im writing code I have the phone in another room to prevent distraction, but when talking breaks it's easy to get sucked in to an infinite news feed.

Personally I want to reclaim my phone as a creation device so when I find myself scrolling pointlessly it becomes a mental trigger to switch app and write, create or post.
