If you work for someone, it's in their best interest to keep your wage low. They've got a budget and once your capped out, that's the end of the game. There isn't anywhere else to go.
If you really want to determine how much money you earn a year, you need to be an entrepreneur. There's no way around it.
Even if you get paid $500K a year - you're still at the final "pay band" as corporation call it. As a great man once said, "99% of people never became rich off their salary."
Why not have the best of both worlds? You could have a part-time job you love that's making you some "base income". Then you could work on side projects for the rest of the day.
This is what worked for me because:
You also forget one more thing: a job with a salary can lead to entrepreneurship opportunities. I got offered a "rev share agreement" with one employer for a side business of his that was taking off. Also, if you read many interviews on IH you'll see that the founders came up with the idea while working at a certain job and seeing a recurring problem.
So the real picture is far more nuanced :)
I mean, it can be making you rich, unless you have a very unrealistic definition of rich. Look at coders making tons of money from big tech companies, they're definitely getting rich and could easily retire after working only 10 years in the industry. If that's not considered rich, or if only making millions of dollars is considered getting rich, then I don't know what to say, that's a pretty unrealistic viewpoint.
Of course I'd rather be an entrepreneur that's rich, but if I had to choose between a job and making tons of money versus being an entrepreneur but being poor, I'd choose the former every single time.
I once listened to a speech by Saygin Yalcin. His key motivation was that he wanted to help his sister, who had severe health issues and laid in hospitals all the time.
He was a DJ once and then founded UAE's Amazon, which, well, got acquired by Amazon for around a billion USD (I don't know how much exactly right now)
One thing he said kept circling in my mind - while he was a DJ he was thinking about how to make a lot of money and went through different options. Logically, everything has a limit, except building a business. You can earn endless money with a business, but not with anything else as there's always a limit or someone who profits more from what you do.
