I've always believed in the four states of being: mental, physical, spiritual and social. I.e. to me, if you can balance these out, then you can actually live a fulfilled and content life.
I spent start of this year really honing in on the mental, physical and spiritual. Social has been a little hard with lock downs and Covid- but still had a very good win this year.
Yes entrepreneurship is hard, and it's so easy to fall in the trap where all you're thinking about is your start up... 24x7. Even worse is when you start neglecting the other states of being. Which I've managed to do a lot of times in my past.
I know this is not sustainable. I have a young family as well... I want to and need to show up as a father and a husband who's present.
I also want to and need to be at my A-game once our startup takes off and I'm even more busier!
Finally, I want to be showing up as a manager that's fully present and just be 'human' for my team members.
So, I just want to share my journey so far with others and share some wins I've had this year.. not tooting my own horn, instead hoping it'll trigger anyone who's into self development to take action as well (if you've been procrastinating on this).
So...
Part of my startup, which has nothing to do with selfcare, Imvidu - edit videos using text, I've been really working on learning and applying more marketing and sales principles this year. Launching very soon, I recently wrote 2x 5000+ articles on the blog around video content creation. I also read at least 10-15 books relating to business and self development this year.
I generally classify business related stuff to mental. But this really depends on what stage of life you're at and your priorities. Meditation would typically sit under 'mental' as well, but I practice a spiritual side to it, so for me it sits under 'spiritual'.
Practicing daily gratitude. I try to do this first thing in the morning as soon as I get up. Also been meditating (ad-hoc), been less disciplined with meditation this quarter.
Did the #75hard challenge in the first quarter. It was the first time I did something like this and it paid dividends. I feel I'm fitter, stronger and leaner than I've ever been in my life... and I'm in my 30s. Yes, it was physically hard, but it's more of a mental challenge than physical TBH.
My #75hard consisted of 2 workouts daily, 2 healthy meals a day, reading several pages of any book, plus the other mandatory items you have to do as part of the challenge. (I included Yoga into my workouts this year, which I've never done in the past).
Besides finding co-founders to work on our start up (which on it's own is a massive 'social' win), I haven't had time to work on any other aspect of social. Once Covid and lock downs ease up, will start to focus on this area more.
If you got any value out of this, I'd love to continue chatting. I'm into self-development and would love to connect further with like-minded peeps.
