YouTube and Podcast to drive website traffic?

I feel like this is a rhetorical question, but... for my "new" site, TokyoSpark -- where I craft "sparks of knowledge" about Tokyo, Japanese culture, and language.

Using a service like Anchor.fm, I could record a reading of posts and publish as a "podcast." In the "show notes" I can have a great excerpt of the content and a link to the article.

Anchor would spread this across multiple podcast platforms for me.

Next I could screen record my iPad Pro while "reading" the post (and adding a bit of extra content/context while I'm at it).

While not the most incredible YouTube video, given the visual nature of my site, it wouldn't be as terrible as watching someone read a blog post.

I would package them as "quick sparks of knowledge" about Tokyo, Japanese culture, and language. The channel would be a place to consume them.

I guess I'm asking... have you tried this? Is it a terrible idea? Un-smart? :)
