Yuck, That Felt Gross. Why did I use that copy?

Here's the Reddit post I made, gross. I apologize that you even have to read it now.

EPL fans, sorry NBC hosed you! We want to give you a little spoiler free solace in watching the recorded peacock matches.

My brother and I built this app to tell you which matches to skip (not worth watching a 0-0 draw) and which is the best match or 2 of the weekend without giving anything away (NO SPOILERS!).

I really like it using it when I sit down on a Sat. evening and have 4 matches recorded. That way I get to watch the best one without having the results ruined. Come check it out!

I've been trying to push myself to "do things that don't scale" and also do things that aren't natural. For me, that means being on Reddit and commenting and looking for genuine opportunities to share our product.

It turns out that YouTubeTV is having a spat with NBC Sports and will make it so that American EPL soccer fans won't have the same access to their games. This isn't exactly our problem, but it's in the vicinity. Folks who like EPL might like our app.

So, I tried to ride wave of frustration and I came off super corporate-y and spammy and not Reddit-y at all. I talked myself in to thinking it wasn't too much self promotion, but looking back, it totally was. Ugh.

The post was instantly reported and taken down soon after. While I am disappointed that I didn't read the situation right, I'm glad to have had the bad experience, I won't do that again.

What did I learn? What not to do.

1. Don't write spammy copy. Be authentic.
2. "Read the room". Write the way everyone else does. If you can't write that way, don't post.
