Zero to revenue in 2 months.

Two months ago my brother slacked me and said he wanted to start a gaming community that hosted tournaments for esports. "Similar to how our university offered intramural sports, I want to do that for gaming".

So we sat down and came up with a bunch of things we would need to do in order to do this. We purchased a domain, set up a llc, set up a discord channel for the community, and then realized we didn't know how to host a tournament.

We decided to do an alpha tournament with only people we knew so we could gather feedback. We invited two teams, and then set up a Call of Duty Modern Warfare tournament.

It went well, and then we started working on our community and what it would take to host our first tournament. Decided on an eight team tournament over two nights. As I was building out the advertisements, I just put April 24 and 25 on it - and we stuck with it. We put together an ecommerce website ( https://club-esports.com ) and are now selling schedules for our first tournament. We gave our alpha testers free entry for the first tournament, which took up the first 4 spots. But then we had two teams purchase their schedules, and that counts as our first revenue.

We haven't even held the first tournament yet, but I wanted to share the quick progress we've made to help inspire others.

FYI - it's only $40 total revenue.

    $40?? It's not $40!! It's the beginning of an empire! ;-)

Congrats Poserdal! Keep it up :) Connect with those two teams now. They are your biggest fans. They can connect you to others, etc. etc.

Make them happy and you'll build a huge audience in no time!

Nice, Lovely to see you have revenue in 2 months,
remember most people have these ideas and are stuck in a indea loop, design loop, never happy with the product.

So this 40$ you are now ahead of any competition! 🤟

How are you differentiating from companies like Battlefy?

    I like the concept.

Start checking on your competitors and see what they are lacking on and make those your points you double down on.

    All the best!!

Great read for motivation. Congratulations and keep us updated with the progress!

Can you explain a little bit about what hosting a tournament means? Like in addition to setting up the match, do you offer commentary and streaming?

    1. 2

For our tournaments we set up the schedule, host the games, and record & comment on streams. Hosting the game consists of creating the lobby and getting both teams in there, maintaining the rules, and ensuring the teams know what they need to know. It's pretty simple, but still a lot of work.

We have our first tournament of 8 teams starting tonight, so I'll let you know how it goes!

This is a perfect example that execution is the best thing to do when you have an idea. Congrats on your execution and then second, congrats on your revenue!

$40 is 40 more than you would have had if you never pursued the idea - great effort!
