May 30, 2024 How discipline changed me from the lowest to somewhere around better

I asked myself what kind of person I wanted to be.

I spent last June playing video games, dicking around, being lazy. Then I just got a kind of "what the fuck am I doing?" kind of moment.

Did I want to be the person jacking off or the one reading books all the time? Did I want to be the person who played video games or the one who the gym twice a day? Did I want to be the guy who finished first in the fantasy baseball league or the guy who spoke two languages? Turns out I didn't want to waste time or talent or life anymore.

This mentality was reinvigorated recently. I ran into an old friend maybe a few months ago and she really had an impact on me. She's brilliant, successful, gorgeous, got her act together in every meaningful way. I thought to myself, if I want people like that in my life, I should be a person worthy of their friendship - and that means more than just being kind and thoughtful, it means being the kind of man I ought to be, personally and physically and professionally.

Anyway, I wrote down everything I want to accomplish in a planner like everyone else. Then i just focus on the goal. Currently, I've lost about 20-30 pounds in the last four months. I've finished 8-10 books this year. My Spanish is getting useful and taught new skills that can provide value in people's lives like coding, product creation, and so on.

Discipline is the little decisions. Water instead of soda at dinner, a run instead of a walk, the gym instead of the PS4, a book instead of Netflix. It's chipping away not whaling at it, tiny choices that you have to make a few times a day.

And it's the force of will to keep making the good ones.
