July 19, 2020 Trying to Launch on Hacker News

Since the last launch on Product Hunt, I've received more than 160 upvotes on Thursday. For whole day, 3sName stays between the top 15th and 18th. There are around 1,000 Product Hunters visiting 3sName.com. The result is definitely satisfactory! ๐Ÿ˜€

So I am going to launch again on Sunday morning. At the moment of writing, it's listing at the 11th of Hacker News - New Show

In general, users of Hacker News are tech-savvy, more critical, sensitive to core values of the tech industry (Open, Free, Interested in technology break-through). Let's see how 3sName is doing at the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Feel free to leave a comment here if you're going to launch on HN soon!

July 16, 2020 Launch on ProductHunt Today! ๐ŸŽ‰

Since the feedback is quite good after launching on IH and subreddit, I decide to launch 3sName on Product Hunt. I donโ€™t aim high to be the top product of the day. As a passionate maker, I just want to keep shipping in the public. Learn Fast, Ship Fast, Grow Fast! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This time, the product is simple but it can help most SaaS founders like me. After researching, I found that there was a market for business name generators. The market leader is having around 250,000 visitors per month. I feel really surprised by the figure. Though I am not sure if these products can monetize the traffics. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Finding a suitable name looks like a simple problem. But itโ€™s a common issue that every founder must go through it. For me, Iโ€™m trying to scratch my own itch. Letโ€™s see how far I can go!๐Ÿš€

Iโ€™ll keep you guys updated! Please upvote on Product Hunt: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/3sname/

Hey! Iโ€™m going to launch my own product soon. I have been considering launching my platform on Product Hunt.
Do you think itโ€™s better to have an already existing user-base before coming live on product hunt?

It depends on your purpose. Some companies launch on PH after a few years. They can get on top of the day with the existing user base. I believe they want to expand their marketing reach with PH. They can monetize the traffics if the product passes PMF.

Some makers just launch on PH to get feedback & validate the idea. My product is so simple that I don't want to wait.

Ok. Thank you for the insight. Best of luck.

Good luck ๐Ÿคž. Which method do you use to actually generate names?

I was using a mixed strategy. At first, I was thinking a generic name like xxxNameGenerator.com, "xxx" stands for "SaaS", "Startup", etc. However, it was too boring.

The name is definitely good for SEO, good for Google indexing. But I want a name for human instead of machines

So I was thinking for a fun name with the meaning of fast, easy-to-remember, short, domain is available, cheap domain, preferably in 2 voices.

I was trying 10sName at the beginning (domain still available), coz 10s is easy to remember. However, 10s is quite slow in today's expectation. I tried 1sName, 2sName, 3sName, 5sName, etc. .name tld is also available but my target domains are not available. I tried for a while and gave up.

      Finally, I settled with 3sName.com.

Personally, I am quite interested in animal names but I don't have chances to try it yet.

Hi @bennychan thanks a lot for the explanation. Unfortunately I wasnt clear enough. I meant more the startup names ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I just define different words like "open", "pig", "happy" and append to user inputs. The startup names are generated in the frontend so it's fast.

I was thinking of generating some cool generic terms like particles, atom, galaxy, etc but I don't know how to do it. LOL. I don't know how to get these terms automatically.

That is really ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Thanks for the reply and best of luck ๐Ÿคž

July 13, 2020 Add Domain Availability and Price

With NameCheap API, I can get the domain availability and prices. Now you can find suitable names and related domains.

I thought it was easy. However, I still need set up a new development and production server to host Django with dockers.

After that, I set up a web service to connect with NameCheap. From the process, I learn that there may be a space to simplify the API set up procedures.

Let me know if you have any feedback for 3sName!

July 3, 2020 3sName.com is live!

It takes me a week to finish the MVP (3sname.com) with Vue & Bulma CSS. When there is no backend, I can finish the MVP in a short time.

Now, you can input a word and inspired by a list of ideas. With NameCheap API, I hope the prices and domain availabilities can be shown in the future!

Hopefully, I can get some feedback from other SaaS founders. Feel free to take a look. Thanks, IHers!

I entered a test name, clicked the magnifying glass search icon, but nothing happened. Button doesn't work, I had to press Enter. 3 seconds in and you might want to either get rid of the icon or make it usable to avoid user frustration.

Thanks for your feedback. I've made the search icon clickable and domain availability in the mean time

June 28, 2020 Come up with the idea!

Inspired by a tweet from Baremetrics, I found there are many founders who are tired of thinking good SaaS product names. So I tried to hack a SaaS Product Name Generator for all founders!
