May 12, 2025 Launched AccessTime: Crypto-Native Subscriptions for Creators & Devs

Hey IndieHackers! 👋

I’m excited to share AccessTime, a blockchain-based subscription platform I’ve been building to make time-based access control dead simple for creators, developers, and communities. As a solo dev diving into web3, I wanted to solve the pain of managing paid subscriptions without relying on centralized platforms or clunky payment systems.

What is AccessTime?

AccessTime lets you create and manage subscription-based projects using smart contracts. It’s crypto-native, meaning payments and access are handled on-chain for transparency and security. Whether you’re a content creator gating exclusive Discord channels, a developer building a dApp, or a DAO enforcing token-based access, AccessTime makes it easy to integrate subscriptions into your project.

Key features:

  • Smart Contracts: Deploy your own subscription contract with a single click via the AccessTime Factory.

  • Developer Tools: TypeScript SDK, React Widget, and public API for seamless integration.

  • Discord Bot: Auto-syncs roles based on on-chain subscription status, no API keys needed.

  • AccessTime Portal: Auto-generated landing pages for your projects, with filters and voting to boost discoverability.

  • Multi-Chain Support: Works on Base, Base Sepolia, and other EVM-compatible chains.

Why I Built It

I kept seeing creators and devs struggle with subscription management. Traditional platforms take hefty fees, lack transparency, or don’t integrate well with web3 apps. Meanwhile, building your own subscription system from scratch is a nightmare, smart contracts, APIs, UI, you name it. I wanted a plug-and-play solution that’s open, decentralized, and developer-friendly. Plus, I saw a gap for tools that bridge web3 and real-world use cases like gated communities or premium content.

The Journey So Far

  • Tech Stack: Solidity for smart contracts, TypeScript for the SDK, React for the Widget and Portal, and NestJS for middleware.

  • Challenges: Designing a modular smart contract system (AccessTime, Factory, AccessVote) that’s secure and scalable was tough. Also, balancing non-technical UX (Portal) with dev-focused tools (API/SDK) took a lot of iteration.

  • Wins: Launched the MVP with a public API, Discord Bot, and Portal.

What’s Next?

  • Analytics: Rolling out stats.accesstime.io for project insights and status.accesstime.io for real-time service monitoring.

  • AccessTime Node: A self-hosted option for querying projects, boosting decentralization.

  • More Integrations: Exploring API keys for automated workflows and expanding the SDK for non-EVM chains.

  • Monetization: Thinking about a freemium model or low fees for premium Portal features—open to suggestions!

I Need Your Feedback!

I’d love to hear from the IndieHackers community:

  • Are you building anything in web3? How do you handle subscriptions or access control?

  • What’s your take on crypto-native tools for creators vs. traditional platforms like Patreon?

  • Any killer features you’d want in a subscription platform?

  • How do you get early users for a niche web3 product without a big marketing budget?
