Active Forks
Newsletter with open source repositories and active forks
After a lot of procrastination, hesitation and prototypes, finally managed to complete and release project.
Project have drifted from the initial idea. After I saw that there is little to no progress done to help developers check repositories by them self, I decided to check them myself and create newsletter with interesting repositories, with forks that are active.
Everything started in HackerNews when found about open source project that allows to check any repositories forks and see how many stars does it have. After checking multiple repositories I understood that stars doesn't mean that much.
I contacted project owner about improving his project by adding commits ahead/behind compared to master. This information would show how active and how far ahead fork is. However after long investigation by me and other contributors we found that this is not that easy, there are no api for it and github api is very limited.

About
Wanted to find hidden communities. Large part of open source projects have active forks, either it's no longer maintained projects being kept alive by community or project taking other direction and branching out.
