AI Music Generator (without AI)

Auto-generated background music made with real music theory

April 18, 2025 I built a no-AI online music generator — pure music theory behind every note. Would love your feedback!

Hi everyone!

I recently made a small music generator you can run right in your browser. It doesn’t use AI, machine learning, or neural networks. Instead, it’s built on strict, old-school music theory rules.

How it works:

The generator plays real-time music made up of harmonically correct chord progressions and melodies.

It randomly switches between two instrument sets:

  • Violin with guitar chords

  • Piano with guitar arpeggios

Plus, it adds a light, randomized percussion track to keep things lively.

Why I made this:

I’ve seen a lot of AI-generated music tools lately — some feel too random, others too academic and complicated. I wanted to find a middle ground: music that’s structured, clean, and easy on the ears, but still automatically generated.

This is a super-early MVP. It’s basic, but I’m testing the idea.

If people like it, I’m thinking about adding:

  • Different moods/styles

  • MIDI export

  • Tempo and harmony controls

  • Maybe a small API for developers

Try it here:

Examples based on generated ideas:

https://ai.od.ua/1.mp3

https://ai.od.ua/2.mp3

Would love to hear what you think!

Would you use something like this?

Should I keep going and expand it?

What features would make this actually useful for you?

Thanks for checking it out!

This is such a refreshing take

love that it leans fully into music theory instead of AI.
Feels way more intentional and human.
I could totally see this being useful for game devs or indie filmmakers who want simple background loops.

MIDI export sounds like a great next step too!

It could be something bigger than background layout in perspective.

        Totally agree
There’s definitely potential for more than just background use. Curious to hear how you’d imagine it evolving beyond that?

For now I'm just improving the product step by step. We'll see what I end up with.

Very cool, and wIt to try this one logic, I see you're integrating MIDI, great idea the world needs this. This would be great to integrate with arpeggio tools, which control randomness and octaves.

Thanks a lot. For now I want to focus on improving the quality of the generated music itself. MIDI is going after.

Really cool idea! If you're looking to give your music generator a distinctive logo that reflects its pure-theory base, I’d love to collaborate!

Pretty cool one. Real artists will have their own combination of chords. Are you planning to let users set it up and generate melodies based on their preset chords?

      Thanks! Maybe later.

This tool is pretty neat! It generated very interesting pieces of music (I liked 1.mp3, though it sounded like some piece of music that I have already heard).

I can imagine that song writers may use this for generating new ideas, as filler for a melody track that they create etc. Overall, really cool!

Thanks! Your feedback inspires me to move forward.
