June 16, 2026 We Analyzed 118,775 Websites. Here's What We Learned About AI Website Builders.

The rise of AI website builders has sparked a lot of debate.

Are AI-generated websites becoming mainstream? Which builders are actually being used? Is traditional web development being replaced?

To answer these questions, we analyzed 118,775 real website scans using AI Website Detector.

The results reveal a fascinating picture of how websites are being built in 2026.

Key Findings

Over the analyzed period, we scanned:

  • 118,775 websites

  • 58 different website builders and technologies

  • Thousands of unique domains across multiple industries

  • Websites built using traditional, AI-assisted, and fully AI-generated workflows

Website Classification Breakdown

Our detection engine classified websites into three categories:

CategoryWebsitesShareHuman-Engineered68,24257%AI-Assisted41,96835%AI-Built8,5657%

The most important takeaway:

More than 42% of scanned websites show some level of AI involvement in their creation process.

While fully AI-generated websites remain a minority, AI-assisted development has clearly entered the mainstream.

Human Developers Still Lead

Despite concerns that AI will replace web developers, our data suggests otherwise.

Traditional development methods remain dominant, accounting for 57% of all detected websites.

Developers continue to rely on established frameworks, CMS platforms, and custom engineering practices to build production-grade websites.

However, AI is increasingly becoming part of the workflow.

AI-Assisted Development Is Becoming the Standard

The largest growth area is not fully AI-generated websites.

It's AI-assisted development.

At 35% of all detected websites, AI-assisted workflows now represent a substantial portion of modern web development.

These websites are typically built by human developers using tools that incorporate AI capabilities, including:

  • AI coding assistants

  • AI-powered design tools

  • Modern frameworks with AI integrations

  • AI-generated components and content

This hybrid approach appears to be the preferred path for many teams.

The Most Popular Technologies

Among all scanned websites, several technologies stood out.

Top Technologies Detected

  1. Next.js — 163 sites

  2. Vercel — 67 sites

  3. WordPress — 63 sites

  4. Elementor — 41 sites

  5. Lovable — 36 sites

  6. Netlify — 28 sites

  7. Tailwind CSS — 27 sites

  8. Ghost — 20 sites

  9. Astro — 12 sites

  10. Shopify — 11 sites

One trend is immediately clear:

Modern JavaScript frameworks continue to gain market share.

Next.js was the most frequently detected framework in our dataset, reinforcing its position as a leading choice for startups, SaaS products, and modern web applications.

Lovable Leads the AI Builder Market

Among dedicated AI website builders, one platform emerged as the clear leader.

AI Builder Adoption Rankings

  1. Lovable — 307 sites

  2. Framer — 62 sites

  3. Webflow — 43 sites

  4. Wix AI — 38 sites

  5. Base44 AI — 31 sites

  6. Replit AI — 16 sites

  7. Hostinger AI — 13 sites

  8. Bolt — 9 sites

  9. v0 by Vercel — 6 sites

  10. Figma AI — 5 sites

Lovable's lead is significant.

Based on detected domains, Lovable accounts for nearly five times as many identified AI-built websites as the second-ranked platform.

This suggests that AI-native website creation tools are beginning to move beyond experimentation and into real-world adoption.

Hosting Trends

Infrastructure choices also revealed interesting patterns.

Top Hosting Providers

  1. Cloudflare — 2,594 sites

  2. Vercel — 1,102 sites

  3. Netlify — 327 sites

  4. GitHub Pages — 165 sites

  5. AWS CloudFront — 73 sites

  6. Google Cloud — 64 sites

  7. AWS S3 — 62 sites

  8. Squarespace — 54 sites

Cloudflare remains the dominant infrastructure provider among scanned websites, followed by Vercel, which benefits from the growing popularity of Next.js applications.

AI Websites Are No Longer Experimental

One of the most surprising discoveries was the variety of websites built using AI tools.

We detected AI-generated websites across:

  • SaaS startups

  • Marketing agencies

  • Consulting businesses

  • Landing pages

  • Ecommerce projects

  • Internal tools

  • Side projects

AI-generated websites are no longer limited to hobby projects or demos.

Businesses are actively using them in production.

How We Detect AI-Built Websites

Detecting AI-generated websites is more difficult than many people assume.

Modern AI builders often remove obvious fingerprints when websites are published to custom domains.

To classify websites accurately, AI Website Detector analyzes:

  • HTML structure

  • Scripts and assets

  • Meta tags

  • Deployment patterns

  • CDN signatures

  • HTTP headers

  • Framework fingerprints

  • Builder-specific indicators

Multiple signals are combined to determine whether a website is AI-Built, AI-Assisted, or Human-Engineered.

What Comes Next?

The web is undergoing one of the biggest shifts since the rise of no-code platforms.

Our analysis of 118,775 websites suggests that:

  • Traditional development remains strong

  • AI-assisted development is growing rapidly

  • Fully AI-generated websites are gaining traction

  • Modern frameworks continue to dominate

  • AI builders are becoming legitimate production tools

The most important trend isn't that AI is replacing developers.

It's that AI is becoming another tool in the developer toolkit.

And based on the data, that transformation is already well underway.

    Interesting data.

What stood out to me isn't the 7% fully AI-built number.

    It's the 35% AI-assisted number.

That feels less like AI replacing development and more like AI becoming part of the default workflow, similar to how Git, Stack Overflow, and cloud hosting eventually stopped being "special" tools and just became normal.

About

AI Website Detector started from a simple question: *Can we tell whether a website was built with AI?* As AI website builders like Lovable, Framer AI, Wix AI, Bolt, and Durable became more popular, I noticed that existi
