October 3, 2019 Launching AirCare for conference attendees

At AirCare, we want to get people thinking about if flying is necessary for certain scenarios. The first scenario we're focusing on is conferences. Attending a conference is a luxury experience and for most unnecessary travel. It's great to attend an event to learn and meet new people but we should all be mindful of the climate cost of this choice.

Today we've launched a tool which helps you understand the climate impact of choosing to fly to attend a conference, and what you can do instead to avoid flying and minimize you climate impact.

    Congrats on the new tool!

Just used your service for the first time and it worked perfectly. Brilliantly made, much easier than others I've tried.

Are you considering calendar invites as an alternative to email forwarding? Might get some virality out of it.

@TimothyD thank you for your support, it means a lot! Calendar invites are a really interesting idea. Were you thinking being able to, for example, add impact@air.care to the event created by Gmail? Or something else?

      1. 1

        Yes exactly! For these reasons:

        • I have less inertia to doing that than forwarding an email with a load of potentially personal data
        • As mentioned, you might get virality from people who share flight invites or who like looking at other people's calendar invites!
        • Bonus feature would be if impact@air.care "accepted" the invite once the offset was done :)

    Hi Steven,

I checked your product. Found it's very eco friendly.
I think you should talk to airlines and airports in case they would like to support. This will help you to scale it.

    Best,
    Max

Thanks Max! Yeah we'd like to in the future alongside travel agencies and travel booking sites.

This is so useful, thank you! :)

September 10, 2019 Our first paying customer!

We're jumping for joy today after hearing from one of our beta testers who enjoyed our product so much they had to pay for it. Without prompting, they visited our production site, went through our onboarding flow, and purchased our very first offset supporting a biodiverse tree planting campaign in Panama. They were even nice enough to send us some positive feedback and a promise to use our service again in the future.

It feels amazing to have launched and begin getting some feedback after weeks of hard work getting ready for the Fixathon. We can't wait until our next customer helps us support our environment.

August 30, 2019 Submitted test app to The Climate Fixathon

After 4 weeks of hard work, we've pulled together what we feel is a good first release for the judges to review.

There are a few things we didn't get around to finishing, but overall we're very happy with what we were able to deliver. For us, this is just the beginning and we can't wait to develop AirCare further and get people testing our beta!

August 22, 2019 Decided on a brand name and domain!

The main point of interaction for users of our product is an email address. For this reason, we felt it was important to get the right brand and domain name — something short and memorable that can easily be recalled.

We probably spent too much time thinking about it, but in the end we came up with a name and domain we're very happy with.

That's a great name! The landing page looks very nice as well.

And don't beat yourself up about spending too much time on name and branding — both are important. It's cheaper to spend a bit more time upfront coming up with a good name, domain and branding, than it is to change it after the fact. I speak from experience. 😬 😭

Cheers Karl! Yeah agreed we wanted something that could last and I think we got the right result in the end. Most importantly I think the email address users will forward flight booking emails to is pretty memorable — impact@air.care 😁

    I like the domain name.

You can improve on the website looks.

Thanks. Yeah we just threw something together quickly for the Fixathon. Lots to work on!

    I like the name!

Thanks Rosie we're really happy with it 😀

August 2, 2019 Started development for Climate Fixathon

For the Climate Fixathon (an online hackathon to help fix the climate) we decided to create the easiest way to learn the climate impact of a flight and make up for it by carbon offsetting.

Existing offsetting solutions require manual data entry. We felt this could be much simpler – with our product you'll be able to forward a flight booking email to us and we'll calculate it's impact and a cost to offset you can pay there and then.
