Album Daily
Discover and Re-discover the best of the music world
Hi all.
I have decided to put Album Daily up for sale, and gauge interest to find a potential buyer to take it to the next level. This truly is a newsletter that could blow up with a savvy marketer or business developer. I put zero effort into marketing, and this was 100% organic growth. The opportunity is great for someone who can put the time in to grow.
Here are the stats:
Started - October 2019
Subscribers - Total 1330 (some subscribe to both options)
- Daily newsletter subscribers - 106 (started 6/22/20)
- Weekly newsletter subscribers - 1226
Open Rate:
- Daily newsletter - 40%
- Weekly newsletter - 25%
Click Rate:
- Daily newsletter - 8-10%
- Weekly newsletter - 5-6%
A couple important notes:
- I'm seeing my organic search engine traffic start to kick in. All newsletter content is posted on the website, so the crawlers are picking it up. In the last two months, I've seen 193 new users from organic google search, which is trending in the right direction.
- All of the growth was organic, not paid at all.
- The only expenses are the domain, which is $20/year (I think, will have to confirm)
- If I do say so myself, the website is a great differentiating factor this newsletter. It is striking. It was custom built by myself, and is a great tool for the newsletter.
If you, or anyone you know, seems like a good fit, I'd love to open a conversation. Take care!
I want to say, this community has been a huge help in building my product, Album Daily. Without IH, there is no way that it would be where it is. So, this is a huge thank you to every single one of you!
We are live on Product Hunt now, and would love for you to take a look and leave some feedback.

Album Daily has officially reached 250 subscribers! This may seem like a small number to many, but I am very proud of the progress that I have made in the two short months since launching. As this is my first venture, I've learned a ton, and am excited to see where I can take this.
Now, enough celebrating, how can I get to my next milestone, 500 subscribers?
Referrals - Last week, I integrated a referral program from a fellow indie maker, Sparkloop. Hopefully this can catch some steam, and drive adoption, while also helping them iron out their product.
Quality Content - In order to ensure that users will want to refer, and stay with Album Daily, I need to keep creating quality content. However, I need visibility into how the users like the albums. So, I need to add a Nero rating (thumbs up/down) to the end of every email, to see if users like that specific album. Open and click rates are great, but they don't tell me how the user liked the album.
Cross Promotions - I have been reaching out to other indie makers, offering a sponsorship in Album Daily, in exchange for promotion via their channels. So far, I have had pretty good success with this, and want to keep providing value to my partners to help our audiences grow together.
Social Media - I need to take some time to create some quality graphics to post to the Album Daily social media channels to drive conversions from followers -> subscribers.
Thanks for reading, if you have any other ideas, please let me know!

as far as the ratings, i'm guessing you're assuming that people will actually come back to the email in order to rate it after listening? I mean because if its a album i've never heard there's no way I can rate it before i've went to listen.

That is a great point, @Coderforlife22. I'll need to figure out a better way to solicit feedback, as that workflow doesn't seem too feasible.

Nice! Did you build the landing Page from scratch?

Thanks! Yes I did!

Congrats on the achievement
I'm already a fan and subscriber and I love to discover new albums through the newsletter because it's simple and I can find new artists.
Keep the hard work!

Congrats. 🍾
Don’t spread yourself too thin by trying to do all things to grow. If you already see something working and there’s scope to do more of that, then focus on it. Leave other channels until later.

Thanks @pauldmet, that’s good advice. Will keep it in mind!

This product came entirely from user feedback. Many potential users said that a daily newsletter is too much, but that they are interested in the content of the Album Daily concept. This led us to launch a Weekly Newsletter, that will target those that interested in the album recommendations, but do not want a daily email.
I am very proud of this concept, as it came straight from potential customers. As we know, sometimes the best ideas come this way, and I'm hoping this will help us reach an entirely new audience that the daily newsletter could not.
Please take a look at the re-designed landing page for Album Daily, and place any comments/feedback below. Thanks in advance!

We have reached our first subscriber milestone just a few short weeks after launching! It took a lot of hustling, but I am proud to say we have hit 100 subscribers for Album Daily (www.albumdaily.com).
Reaching this milestone has taught me just how hard it is to gain customers, and that you need a well thought out customer acquisition strategy in order to sustain growth. That is exactly what we are working on now.

Thanks @ndorrell!
We do a mix of Social Media Marketing and targeted Reddit posts at the moment. The social media aspect has been pretty good, getting able to get one LinkedIn post in front of around 2,000 people. However, it seems that more conversions have come from Reddit, which I was advised to do by a fellow Indie Hacker.

Hi!
Can you tell us a little bit more about reddit? I was struggling to do any marketing there because this resource is very intolerant to any promotions :(((-

Hi @Zencentric! Our Reddit journey is very new, as we just started recently, but from that experience, I have found it important to post relevant content to the community. So, for Album Daily, I would make a post in the subreddit for the artist that is our daily album, saying that we featured this artist today.
Another one is to find my target audience by looking for posts where people are asking for new ways to find music. Then I can post my solution, as it directly addresses their problems!

Hi, thanks for your response!
I totally agree about the content should be relevant and useful. But from my experience, some subreddits are crazy unfriendly about any promotional content no matter how useful and relevant it is including free stuff.-

I understand! I'll need to be careful when doing posting then. Simple wording changes can make the post seem like less of a sell, which helps me. For example, saying something in a subreddit for an artist like "ArtistX was featured on Album Daily today!" is a non-pushy way to get people to the site, and so far no moderators have complained.

After many months, and a pivot mid-development, I was finally able to launch Album Daily and start gaining subscribers. It felt so good to get it out there, and start receiving feedback from the early adopters.
Already I have found areas to improve, so if I can give advice to any founders out there, go to market as fast as you can! You can always improve on your product, but there are scenarios you will not know about until gaining real leads/customers.
Check out www.albumdaily.com, it will help enrich your music life!

About
Album daily exists to add a passive way to discover and re-discover music. I found myself listening to new albums, old albums, and jams from the 2000's, and knew that other people would enjoy them.

Is this still available? @garretthenrym

Lovely site and idea, and a great use of an email newsletter. I think it would be a nice fit as a purchase for an offline/online independent record store.
What’s the ball park price you’re looking for?
Hello @yaroslawbagriy! I don't have a set price in mind. Will entertain any fair offers.
What is the revenue on the newsletter?
No revenue because I did not put any time into selling ads. At its current subscriber level, it easily could support ad revenue right away.
