AlcoInsights
Your personal alcohol intelligence app
I’m a founder who likes data, analytics, and AI a bit too much — and that bias completely reshaped how I think about alcohol tracking.
Most alcohol apps start with static goals:
X drinks per week
no drinking on weekdays
stay under Y units tonight
From a systems perspective, these are rigid constraints applied to a dynamic system. People don’t “fail” them because they lack discipline — they fail because the model is wrong.
When I started analyzing alcohol as time-based exposure, different signals emerged. What mattered far more than totals was:
pace between drinks
acceleration vs deceleration within a session
time spent above specific BAC thresholds
recovery tail effects rather than peak values
Two sessions with the same total units can behave very differently depending on what you drink, if you drank water in between, drink rate and timing.
That insight changed how I think about goals. Instead of moral commitments or hard limits, goals became control parameters layered on top of personal data.
So I built a goal system that lets people choose what they want to understand or stabilize, not what they’re supposed to comply with:
short abstinence challenges (event-based, month-based, reset windows)
reduction goals relative to your own baseline
habit constraints like “no back-to-back days”
custom metric goals (pace, sessions, peak exposure, calories, recovery risk)
sober days defined by you, not the calendar
These goals aren’t evaluated in isolation. They sit on top of deeper signals:
personal speed-up points during sessions
BAC zone exposure over time
how subjective feeling states map to physiology
which risks come from amount vs duration vs mixing
Once you can see those patterns, behavior often smooths out on its own. Better pacing. Fewer peaks. Faster recovery — often without explicitly trying to “drink less.”
Most tools try to enforce discipline.
I’m more interested in building personal alcohol intelligence — systems that make the dynamics legible and let people make informed, flexible choices.
For anyone interested, this is what I’m building:
About
I started working on AlcoInsights after realizing how little feedback people get about alcohol compared to almost everything else they track. Despite all our health data, alcohol is still treated as a blind spot.

Congrats on the launch, looks solid. How are you currently thinking about acquiring early users and gathering feedback?
Thanks - I only have friendly users today and the app is working - I'm using it myself and keep fixing and tweaking some small things, but I'm stuck in promoting it - don't really know how to move to next step...
That’s a common situation to be in—especially when the product functions well, but distribution hasn’t taken off yet. Most founders find themselves in this position right after the “friends and friendly users” phase.
The next step typically isn’t to promote everywhere; instead, it’s about selecting one channel where your ideal users are already discussing the problem. From there, you can test a few focused, conversation-driven posts. This is why Reddit often works well at this stage; it allows you to learn which messaging resonates while also attracting early users.
If you’d like, I can help you create a simple Reddit starter plan, including recommended subreddits and post ideas, so you’re not left guessing what to try next. I'm happy to guide you through it.
Interesting approach. How are you thinking about getting this in front of the right users initially?
Good question, any ideas?
