AliTools API
API for eCommerce products
We came up with the idea to show somehow our data without sending data samples. So we created a calculator allowing a user to set up category, country and days amount to check how much data do we have for his/her needs and for what price. Also, we slightly changed the advertising channels.
And killed our conversions:) People playing with the calculator, but there are no leads from the landing.
We found the first person who wanted to pay for our data. We found him not through the landing, but just searching across Linkedin and sending connection requests with a short message. Actually, it was a fruitful way to get some insights from the potential audience.

Hey Yes. This is a great way to get insights from the potential. While me and @samzer were building @ModelChimp. I reached to about 2000 odd people some of them not only helped us validate our product idea - but they also became users of the product.
If you know who your ideal customer is - LinkedIn is great.

Nice to get results from LinkedIn. It can work if done the right way. I get a fair amount of attempts from people, mostly they suck.

We actually didn't get results from their paid advertisement, maybe I just failed with targeting, but still. What worked was to find some relevant company through other channels (or LinkedIn search) and then send a connection request with short introductory text. But it's a really time-consuming task.

We got more than 100 requests and sent about 10 samples. And no feedback or further requests for more data. The biggest question was if that means there is no interest. We have tried different advertisement channels. Quora and Linkedin were for sure not our channels. And Linkedin is a super expensive one.

Before launching any MVP we decided to test if there is any interest to the idea. We launched a landing page proposing free data sets for anybody who wants to try our data.
There was pretty long conversion funnel. After a person submitted a request for test dataset, we sent him/her an email asking to specify the request (what region, product category, the time period is needed and so on). Those who responded to this email were getting data samples (100 data raws in each).
There is the main company's product AliTools. It helps users to buy on AliExpress more confidently: they can check if a sale is real with a price history feature, they can get a notification for price dropping of the products they marked as favourites, they can truck and so on. While people searching on AliExpress we are gathering data. Now only our users are getting benefit from it, but we believe there are other businesses which could find insights in it. That's how the idea of AliTools API emerged.
