Allmypicz

For almost 1 year I haven't built any new feature and neither promoted the project, but instead I have uploaded myself 25GB of pics & videos and shared with some close people.

I've been busy with my software agency & also had doubts as with every product idea I've worked on.

In the meanwhile I still had lots of thoughts coming to my mind regarding features & why this product should exist.

Today I did some brainstorming and took notes of the most important things to focus on in the next phase, and also posted on the forum to get some feedback.

Next up will be to prioritize and build a roadmap for the next months and get into the habit of making small progress.

Guess what? I come to the office on sunday.. and yeah, this time I was not thinking of client work.. I was too motivated with finishing and launching the MVP.

So about 10pm in the sunday evening and I was deploying the webapp on the server and having my first time experience with ffmpeg video library and video conversion to be able to upload MOV file, convert it to mp4 and play it in the browser!

I could already upload pictures but other reason I was building this platform was to upload pictures and videos from my cousin's wedding I've been last summer because they were asking me to send them the pics and videos.

And I was thinking.. How? Google Drive? Dropbox? Facebook? I don't like any of those options.. plus I want an easy, friendly, responsive / mobile ready way to send them to all my non-techie family members.

So.. back to the moment when I was having the hacking fight with video libraries.. I've finally managed to make it work!!

• Video uploaded [Check!]
• Cover picture extracted from video [Check!]
• Video converted to mp4 and ready to play in browser [Check!]

Then I've jumped for joy!!

Continued to upload the rest of the wedding pictures and videos, sent the link to my family and went happy at home to rest!! :-)

So on friday I arrive at the office and think to myself:

• "Man, I really have to focus on this client work and deadlines"

Then 5 minutes after that I find myself coding on building an MVP of the platform instead of working on the job.

So I give the project a big push, setting the basics of the webapp.

Then on saturday I come again to the office and again I say to myself..

• "Man today you gotta get client work shit done, don't waste time again on other stuff"

Guess what? Whole saturday spent coding on Allmypicz!

Two days after sending myself the note with the idea, I suddenly could not focus on work..

• So I impulsively bought the domain name, and I thought, crazy idea but who knows, I'll just add it to the list of domain names bought because of "ideas" that never got anywhere

• Then I've got a white sheet of paper and quickly draw wireframes and took notes of an MVP for the project

• And then I've created a repo on Bitbucket and started a skeleton webapp with Yii framework.. and said to myself.. I'm just bored with work and this is just a small distraction..

I had been struggling to take some more pictures with my iPhone 16GB but I had no space on it.

Also I was thinking that in various ocasions I had plugged in my phone in the laptop via USB and basically copied/pasted and dumped/abandoned the pictures on the computer's HDD to be able to free some space to take new ones.

Then one day, a friend tells me..

• "Hey my phone is full of pictures I cannot take more.. and one time I've tried to delete them from the phone and keep them on iCloud, they were also deleted from iCloud and I've lost a lot of pictures."

And another day, another friend talks about the same thing:

• "Man I really need to do something with all the pictures on my phone"

And even my mom! and she's not techie at all! doesn't even have a computer:

• "Hey son, what the hell do I do with all the pictures on my phone? I have no space left.. and I'm worried I might lose them!"

So what happend on September 19th 2018, at 11:44pm, I've sent this note via mail to myself:
