November 20, 2020 Getting Interest From Demos

We've done a couple of in-person demos now, one at an architecture firm and one at a custom home builder. The response has been very positive but people on this side of the building process seem to be unsure that there's concrete market opportunity.

There's no doubt that clients would love it, but would they pay for it? And would they pay enough that we could run a successful business from it?

My feeling is that we may be too ahead of the curve here, where clients are not yet aware of, or asking for, this type of service, so maybe the concrete demand isn't there. VR tools like ours may still be in the 'novelty' category instead of 'productivity'.

It may also just be that our customers are home owners like my dad and not necessarily people who are already providing design and building services.

August 6, 2020 Deciding to Go For It

After spending the summer in a Covid Pod with two other families, one of the other dads, Rob, and I got to talking. He was looking for a new job and I was messing around with VR. During our discussions during co-dadding homeschool, we sketched out a VR consulting business that seemed promising.

Our first client, and inspiration for the idea, was my dad. He is in the process of building a new house and Rob and I were able to take him through a tour of his new house in VR. My dad was super excited and found it immediately useful. We figured there were more home owners out there like him, we just have to find them.

So we're deciding to make a go of it as a business. We'll be fronting all the costs ourselves and doing the work in our spare time, so we don't expect it to grow very quickly. But if nothing else it should be a fun experiment.
