Art by an AI

After 6 months of daily prompt competitions and art generation I shut down the project.

In its place is a gallery of some of the most interesting images from those 6 months. The art in the gallery is still available to buy.

It mostly ran hands-free. But it only ever lost money (running costs and no sales). But the reality is that AI generated art is a fast moving space right now.

And as far as I can tell, the money being spent on it is on the generation of images, rather than buying the art itself. Which isn't something I'm interested in pivoting to.

It's also gotten to the point where I need to cut projects that aren't pulling their weight. Mostly for focus. And the fact that traffic and prompt submissions have dropped off doesn't help.

Could I have done more to make the project successful? Sure. Marketing it and pivoting to on-demand paid generation might have made it profitable.

Having said that, I'm happy with the project as a whole and how it ended.

Art by an AI hosts a daily prompt competition. Images are generated of the top 10 voted prompts of the day.

Then, only until the next batch of images are created, the art pieces are available to purchase as prints (canvas or poster).

This was one of the more involved projects so far, so it was shipped literally on deadline day. But that could have just been a Parkinson's law thing.

Next steps are to market the site and get some traffic and competitors involved.
