July 12, 2026 Marketplace cold start. Supply first or demand first? Here's what we're trying

I'm building ASCEND (ascendmarket.co), a marketplace where gamers buy and sell accounts with escrow protection and identity-verified sellers.

The product was honestly the easy half. Escrow flow works, sellers get ID checked before listing, 25+ games supported, fees only apply on completed sales.

The hard half is the classic marketplace cold start. Buyers won't come without listings, sellers won't list without buyers. We're going supply first. A gaming account listing doesn't rot, it sits there until it sells. So stocking the shelves first costs sellers nothing and gives buyers something real to browse on day one.

What we're doing right now

• Concierge listing. We find sellers already posting in Facebook groups and offer to handle the listing for them • Zero listing fees, we only earn when a sale completes • Founder-led everything. I answer every DM myself

If you've cracked the cold start on a marketplace, what actually moved the needle for you? Happy to share numbers as we go.

About

I watched gamers in the Philippines get scammed daily selling accounts through Facebook groups and Discord DMs. Pure trust deals, no protection, and the scammers won constantly. ASCEND exists so that never has to happen
