Decided to add credit card and bank statements as well...receipts aren't enough to understand my spending habits and where I need, or can, reduce my spend.
So I added the initial functionality for users to upload credit card and bank statements PDF docs. So far so good...lots of good insights.
Using Amazon Bedrock's Claude 3 and Llama for a lot of it. But I don't like the complexity of my app. Looking at MongoDB to replace my DynamoDB and ElasticSearch (+ Lambda notifications) setup.
Lost motivation, frankly. Started thinking of all the additional work I need to do to make this a success and decided to take a break for a bit...jiu-jitsu and sauna are the best stress relievers :) Even way will get back to it soon...need a project to work on otherwise I feel like I'm not moving in the right direction.

I haven't created the MVP yet but I believe I have something good here. Not only can I search receipts, but I can also export them in TSV format, which is great if a customer needs to import these receipts into any downstream services, or simply google sheets.

I started out with receipts. You upload a receipt and the app does everything else -- itemizes it, normalizes it, and indexes it. So far it's pretty good but I don't see too much value out of what I created, even for myself. Yes, I can quickly search my receipts and see what I spent, and where, but that's it. Need to add additional data sources and functionality.

Started designing and coding...I'm using AWS and many different AI/ML services, including Bedrock. Looking good so far.
The idea behind the project is simple -- create something that I will love and use and then it's worth it no matter whether anyone else is going to use it.

About
3 years ago we moved to Florida and our spending went up two-fold. So I created this app to see where the money is going, and then started adding new features.
