AstroIP.co
IP Geolocation and Threat Intelligence API
First of all, Merry Christmas!
As a great present I just received an email from Stripe about a new subscription being signed! Actually, this is the FIRST subscription being signed!
My service is still very new, I released like one month ago, and when I received that notification I just jumped from my chair!
The customer subscribed for the basic tier which is $10 a month, but still, this feels me with joy and satisfaction!
AstroIP.co has over 160 active accounts running on the free tier and now 1 account running on basic tier. This is just great!
For some this might just be nothing to be excited for, but for me, it is just a fantastic news I wanted to share with this community.

A new update to the API has been released which significantly improves the accuracy of the Security datapoint of our JSON response.
Our database now covers more than 600 Million IPs and subnets between proxies, malwares, abusers and attackers. AstroIP gathers such information from multiple open and publicly available sources and aggregates them together to ensure accuracy.
The database gets updated on a daily basis to guarantee maximum data freshness.

We just started releasing SDK for our API for the main programming languages available. The first is Typescript!
The SDK is available on npm and yarn. It is obviously open-source, and the codebase can be found on GitHub:
https://github.com/astroip-co/astroip-typescript/
More info on our GitHub page:

In order to make our API even more dev-friendly, we are going to replace dashes with underscores in the field names of our JSON responses.
Foer example, the field named: "country-code" , has been updated to "country_code".
Also some fields have been renaming entirely like:
is-daylight-saving -> is_dst
country-iso-code -> country_code
The main reason behind why are we changing our naming conventions, is that most of web-oriented programming languages, can automatically convert JSON strings into objects.
PHP for example, can convert JSON and use a simple:
$obj->name_field
instead of an ugly:
"$obj->{'name-field'}"

In order to give more and more insights behind any IP and ASN available, I just released a new endpoint for AstroIP which returns the list of IP Blocks managed by the requested ASN, the abuse contacts and registry where that ASN is assigned to!
Check this out:

"status-code": 200,
"ip-blocks-v4": [
"12.30.153.0/24",
"144.34.20.0/24",

"199.36.118.0/24",
"199.58.220.0/24",
"27.123.148.0/24",
"45.162.189.0/24"
],
"abuse": {

In order to increase transparency and keep all AstroIP users up-to-date on the latest, I started tracking any update, issue, bug and new features on a new Headway Changelog!
I strongly believe that transparency is key and I like all my users to know exactly what is happening to the platform.
I plan also to share a roadmap which will highlight future milestones and direction of this service.

Cool stuff. Where do you source the IP data out of curiosity?

Nice! AppSumo is offering a LTD for a changelog, Roadmap and something else.

This looks great! Gonna give it a try tomorrow.

Nice! Always like to see people publishing changelogs. I'm curious though why you opted for Headway? There's a lot of great tools for changelogs that also incorporate public roadmaps (Canny, Noora, Upvoty), what made you go for Headway?

Hi, I really like the simplicity of their user interface and the fact that they offer a very elegant widget that can be integrated in your own website in like 5 lines of code.
I needed something that would work quickly, didn't want to spend hours on this, that could be used to improve AstroIP instead.

Agree that these tools should be fast. Since you also say you want to get a public roadmap going, it'd be nice if you could take a look at Noora (noorahq.com) and see what you think. You can embed your changelog and roadmap on to your site in < 5 minutes (see the examples on our site). Bonus: we also have a dark and light theme!

It took 2 months, but I'm finally done building the minimum viable product for AstroIP.
I worked mostly nights and weekends, but the service is really stable and most importantly is accurate and fast! The response time of the API is around 65ms on average which positions this API in the handful list of super quick GeoLocation APIs.
Next step will be to get some customers onboarded and see if/how this service would be useful to the Dev community.

Ha, congratulations!
Technically you already had your first paying customer from Skedlo.
But good to see AstroIP taking off! 😀
Ah! But each project is different.

Thanks a lot. Yes it is all custom made using Microsoft technologies.
