February 8, 2026 Building AudioCut: Why I Made a Simple Online Audio Cutter

Hey Indie Hackers 👋
I’m the maker of AudioCut, a lightweight online tool to trim and cut audio files directly in the browser.

This is the story behind why I built it, how I launched it, and what I learned along the way.

The Problem: Audio Editing Is Overkill for Simple Tasks

I frequently needed to trim audio clips:

  • Cutting podcast highlights

  • Making ringtones from music

  • Extracting snippets for TikTok / YouTube Shorts

But every time, I had to open heavy tools like Audacity, Premiere, or mobile apps full of ads and watermarks.

For something as simple as cutting a few seconds of audio, the friction was ridiculous.

So I asked myself:

Why isn’t there a fast, no-login, no-install audio cutter that just works?

The Idea: Upload → Trim → Download

I wanted AudioCut to be:

  • Instant – no signup, no ads, no waiting

  • Private – files deleted automatically

  • Lossless – no re-encoding quality loss

  • Cross-platform – works on desktop and mobile

The UX goal was simple:

Upload → Trim → Download. Nothing else.

How It Works (Tech Stack)

  • FFmpeg for audio processing

  • WebAssembly for fast in-browser execution

  • Minimal backend for file handling and cleanup

  • Clean UI with zero distractions

I focused more on speed and reliability than fancy features.

Launch Strategy

I launched AudioCut with a very simple distribution plan:

  • SEO pages targeting keywords like audio cutter online, trim mp3, cut audio

  • Product Hunt launch (with founder comment + demo GIF)

  • Sharing on Indie Hackers and X

No paid ads. Just organic search + community.

Early Feedback & Learnings

1. People love “No Signup”

This is the #1 feature users mention.

2. Speed > Features

Most users just want fast trimming, not DAW-level editing.

3. SEO Works for Simple Tools

Long-tail keywords like:

  • cut mp3 online

  • trim wav file

  • ringtone maker

brought surprising organic traffic.

What’s Next for AudioCut

Planned features:

  • Batch audio trimming

  • Merge multiple audio files

  • Fade in/out effects

  • Cloud storage integrations

  • API for developers

Still keeping it lightweight and free.

Looking for Feedback

If you trim audio often, I’d love your thoughts:

  • What’s missing?

  • What should I build next?

  • What would make you switch from desktop editors?
